William H. Siegrist

William passed away quietly on Sunday, November 18, at age 90 in his hometown of Lansing. Born November 27,1921, to Walter and Mabel (Magley) Siegrist, Bill graduated from Lansing Central High School in 1941. By September of 1942, he was a soldier in the U.S. Army in the midst of WWII. He was initially deployed to North Africa and ultimately earned three bronze service “battle” stars, along with numerous decorations including a Bronze Star, while participating in campaigns across Italy, and serving in the 88th Infantry Division, also know as “The Blue Devils.”

Following the war, Bill married the love of his life, Florence Cook. Bill and Flo remained happily married for 65 years, and raised two sons, Steven and William.

Bill began working for the American Bank and Trust in Lansing and continued his education in Mortgage Banking at the Northwestern University in Chicago. In 1980, Bill retired as a Vice President of the bank after more than 30 years of service.

The couple experienced busy social lives as members of both the Grand Ledge and Lansing Country Clubs, and spent many happy years vacationing at their summer cottage on Lake George. Their lives were also enhanced by various bank-sponsored conferences they participated in across the country in cities such as Atlanta, New York and San Francisco.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Walter (Ione) Siegrist, sisters, Betty (Frank) Szedlak and Katherine (Roger) Ripstra. Bill is survived by his wife, Florence, his sons, Steven (Vicki) Siegrist, William (Shirley) Siegrist, six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews.

Bill took much pride in the beautiful landscaping and flowers surrounding his home, and was given recognition for his green thumb by the Lewton Neighborhood Association in Lansing. Bill enjoyed life and had many friends and acquaintances, who appreciated his humor and affability. He will be missed.

The family would sincerely like to thank Stoneleigh Hospice for their exemplary care and concern shown to Dad during his stay at their facility.

A memorial service will be held at a future date to be determined by the Siegrist family.
