William G. “Bill” Haun
Bill was born August 31, 1937 in Philadelphia, PA to the late Frank Frederick Haun and Carol Emma Brewster, and with his family at his side, was called to eternal rest on December 23, 2023. Bill attended Germantown High School, Philadelphia, PA followed by enlisting in the U.S. Navy. Bill was trained as an electrician, and rose proudly to the rank of Chief Petty Officer. Bill had a enviable career serving on three submarines, a destroyer, a tender and an oiler. He was a true patriot and loved his country. After retiring from the USN, he brought his family to Michigan where he retired from Dart Container Co., Mason, MI.
Bill agreed to a blind date in 1964 at the New York World Fair where he met his match, Janet Esch Haun. They were married in June 1968 at the Church of the Resurrection, Lansing, MI. Bill and Janet had 55 beautiful years together. God blessed their union with two wonderful sons: William George Haun, Jr. (Marla), and Frank Harry Haun, Keiko Masuda Haun, seven grandchildren, Nicole (Joe) Brewer, Zachary Lemmon, Lucas Lemmon, Elizabeth Lemmon, Adam Haun, Kevin T. Haun and Will H. Haun, and three great-grandchildren, David Brewer, Genevieve T. Brewer and Akiko Sage Haun.
Surviving Bill are his loving wife, Janet, sons, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, brother Frank Haun, (Lillian), Lisa, niece of Furlong, PA, sister Carol (Paul) Futchko, Venice, FL, many, many nieces and nephews, and special friends. Bill was preceeded in death by his sister, Mary Ann Kettell and brother-in-law Mike Kettell.
Nothing mattered to Bill more than loving and providing for his entire family. Bill was lucky to enjoy many warm, special friendships and great memories. He loved and he was loved.
God gave Bill a extra-soft spot in Bill’s heart for his chain of dogs. He enjoyed their company throughout his entire life. He went above and beyond to save and keep many four-footed canines in comfort and safety. They broke his heart when they passed, but God always had one, or two ready at his doorstep.
The family of Bill Haun would like to thank their circle of family and friends for their love and prayers they’ve shared, to ask God to keep our “Dad” in his eternal love and ask for continued blessings on our family.
The family is being served by Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, Lansing, MI. There will be a funeral Mass at St. Mary Catherdral, Lansing, MI on Friday, January 5th. Visitation will be at the Cathedral starting at 9:00 a.m. The funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m., with burial to follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
Memorials can be made to the Ingham County Animal Shelter, 600 Buhl St., Mason, MI 48854.
