Wayne Quick
Wallace “Wayne” Quick of Holt, MI, age 90 passed peacefully on June 26, 2024 at his home in Holt, Michigan. He was born April 2, 1934 in Crookston, Minnesota, the son of Theodore Roland and Mary Martin Quick. Wayne was a 1952 graduate of Danville Illinois High School. He then completed classes at Michigan State Normal College in Ypsilanti, Michigan, with hopes of becoming a professional baseball player or coach. After his wife, his second love was softball. And could he ever talk about softball! Wayne has played in and managed numerous teams over the span of 70 years. He played senior softball and was able to travel the country playing in many tournaments. His teams earned several national titles, and two world titles. Through his travels with Elaine, they were able to visit all 50 states, a wonderful feat. He was self-employed for a large portion of his life and enjoyed all the varied challenges he encountered. He was the kind of dad/friend everyone needed because he could fix anything. Wayne always had a book in his hand, and sometimes two. He loved passing along books that he knew someone was interested in. It was common for him to have a whole box of books ready for a friend. He was a longtime member of the Holt Kiwanis Club and volunteered for many years at the Holt Food Bank.
On November 18, 1978, Wayne married Elaine Marie Paul Lennox in Belleville, Michigan. This marriage happily blended two families into one. Survivors include his wife, Elaine, seven children: Jeffrey Quick, Brian (Mary) Quick, Michael (Janice) Quick, Mary Tamra (Ted) Miller, Heather Quick, Trisha Lennox, and Matthew (Bonnie) Lennox. Also surviving are grandchildren: Jennifer (Matt) Havens, Pamela (Jake) Gurica, Dallas (Tiffany) Quick, David (Becky) Quick, Brandon Quick, Jon (Abby) Quick, Kaytlyn Tomasi, LeeAnna Quick, Kathryn (Garrett) Barton, Christopher (Autumn) Slider, Drew (Liz) Sutton, Thomas (Olivia) Sutton, Riley Lennox, and Logan Daniels, along with many great-grandchildren. Wayne is also survived by his brother, Robert Quick and sister-in-law Janet (Tom) Tuttle. Special friends Lorri and Amy Miller. Grateful for caregivers Betsy, Sarah and Scott. Not to forget the numerous ballplayers and friends he gathered along the way.
He was predeceased by his parents, brothers Oliver, Clarence, and Charles Donald Quick, and sisters Betty Goff and Clara Lane.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday July 6, 2024, 1:00 at Kiwanis Park in Holt. Right next to the ballfield of course. Friends and family are welcome to share their memories of Wayne. He loved telling his stories, and his family would love to hear tales of their time with him. Of course, those attending should plan on wearing their casual shorts, softball t-shirts/jerseys or Green and White. His final resting place will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Chelsea. Arrangements by Estes-Leadley Funeral Home of Holt, Michigan. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity of your choice.

June 30, 2024 at 8:40 amWayne was my adopted dad we used to go out and do repairs and laugh and tell stories. He helped me remodel my home that I purchased in mason. We would have lunch at the courthouse pub and he would have cherry coke that they made special for him. He would tell the waitress that was the best he ever had. I will miss him and his smiles . You’ll always be loved and thought of. Elaine if you ever need anything just call and I will be there to help you.

July 1, 2024 at 10:35 amWhere to begin, I met Quick Wayne when I was old enough to play Senior Softball up in Holt Mi. 48 years old I think! That was 22 years ago, it didn’t take me long to find out he was a softball maniac, he was always looking for good players, not just any players though he was looking for men who had great qualities, if you were a hot head he wasn’t interested. Honesty Integrity and good Character was what he was looking for always thinking of this new player fitting into the TEAM concept. The best thing I liked about Wayne was he talked about the Lord and serving him on his life walk. He was a mentor to so many in the Lansing and Jackson area. I’m thinking he is up in Heaven right now looking for some players! No bad knees no bad hips no medical problems at all he’s probably running down those streets of Gold. Thanks for being a good friend and an example of Gods Amazing Love and Grace!
Thanks to his wonderful wife Elaine, she was by his side at almost every game or tournament! Many fond memories of you both. God is Good and he’s still on the Throne of Heaven.

July 5, 2024 at 10:33 amWayne was a wonderful man full of love! Pretty much love of everyone and all that he did. He always managed a smile no matter how he felt physically. He was a handy man yes but I remember how he loved to make bluebird houses. I will miss him. Love, Mary.
