Waldemar D. Metzger
Age 90, of Lansing, died on September 1, 2010. Mr. Metzger was born January 1, 1920 in Frontenac, Minnesota, son of the late Pastor David and Emma Metzger.
Mr. Metzger was a graduate of Ferris State University with a degree in Pharmacology. He served as a Pharmacist in the Navy during World War II. He also worked at various Pharmacies in Michigan including the Apothecary Shop in Lansing and Ingham Medical Hospital where he worked until his retirement in 1982.
Wally always had a kind word for all he met and was never without a smile. He enjoyed traveling and nature walks with his wife Margaret. He also enjoyed working on projects around the home and tending his garden.
Surviving are his beloved wife of 57 years, Margaret; brother, Walter; sister, Ruth; sons, David (Debbie), Daniel; daughters, Mary (Greg) Hyatt; Martha (Clark) Brown; and eight grandchildren.
The family would like to express their gratitude to their brother Daniel for the many years of selfless and loving care of their parents, allowing them to remain in their home.
The funeral service will be held Friday, September 10, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 4001 S. Pennsylvania, Lansing. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Thursday, September 9th from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, 325 W. Washtenaw, Lansing. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church or the Alzheimer’s Association – Great Lakes Chapter.
