Victor Alan Dotson

Born May 5, 1949, in Burlington, Iowa, to Floyd and Betty (Bretz) Dotson.  Victor passed away February 7, 2025, at the age of 75. Victor was proceeded in death by his parents, his stepfather, and his brother, Jerry. Victor is survived by his wife of 22 years, Mary Ludtke; brother, James (Cheryl) Maxson of Geneseo, Illinois; his aunt, Jean Bean of Moline, Illinois; sisters-in-law, Jeanine Hanson and Carol Ludtke Prigan (Brian Murphy); and several nieces and nephews. 

Victor graduated from Moline High School, Moline, Illinois. He earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois and his master’s degree in psychology from Western Michigan University.  He worked in mental health agencies throughout his career and retired from Northern Lakes Community Mental Health in Traverse City in 2009 after 25 years of service. 

Victor enjoyed boating, fishing and the outdoors and was an avid supporter of conservation efforts, especially in Michigan. He enjoyed watching “sci fi” movies and television shows.

A memorial service will be held at University Lutheran Church, East Lansing on May 3, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. Inurnment will be at Romeo Cemetery later. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the United Methodist Committee on Relief (https://umcmission.org/give-to-umcor/) in memory of Victor Dotson.

Vic became part of our family as soon as he said “I do” with Mary. His kindly nature and easy smile endeared him to us. He played a mean game of euchre, too!
My deepest sympathy to Mary and the Dorson families. He will be missed.
