Verlene J. Ritter

Age 92, of East Lansing, MI, passed away April 8, 2023. She was born January 25, 1931, in Lansing, MI, to the late Dewey Laningham and Dorothy Mulford.

Verlene was a longtime member of Towar Hart Baptist Church, East Lansing. She was also a member of Edwin J. Leyanna Post #4098 VFW – Women’s Auxiliary, Women of the Moose Lodge #288, the Genealogy Society of Southern Illinois, and was a longtime volunteer with Lansing Ophthalmology.

She is survived by her children, Linda (James) Clymer, Robert (Kimberly) Ritter, and Ronald (Christine) Ritter; 10 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 23 great-great-grandchildren with 2 more on the way; sisters, Diane Denike, Betty Lou Grosser, Bonnie Conlin; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family members. She was preceded by her husband, Gene Ritter, and daughter Suseann VanLiew.

The funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, April 14, 2023, at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Lansing. Her family will receive relatives and friends from 3-7 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Towar Hart Baptist Church, 6157 Towar Ave., East Lansing, MI 48823.
