Tomene J. Fisher
Tomene Fisher went home to be with Jesus on April 13, 2025. Tomene was born to Tom and Lorna (McKane) Griffith on Easter Sunday, March 28, 1948. Easter was always her favorite holiday, and it is fitting that she will be able to celebrate the Resurrection with her mom, dad, and grandma, along with Jesus himself.
Tomene’s (pronounced tom-een) name was wholly unique, created by her mom Lorna at a young age when she had a crush on Tom, who later would become her husband. Tomene is combination of Tom (her dad) and Irene (her grandma, Lorna’s mom).
More than anything, Tomene was a dedicated mother and daughter with a servant’s heart. She devoted her life to raising her daughter and then caring for her parents at the end of their lives.
Tomene was moved by music and was always in awe of God’s creation through nature and animals. She loved to travel and was able to do so early in life to Brazil and Europe, where she lived in Germany. She would often talk about the beauty of places and things she had seen like the Swiss Alps, the Mediterranean Sea and the renaissance paintings and sculptures in Italy. When in the US, she preferred to travel by train so she could see the landscape.
Tomene worked for the State of Michigan for over 20 years where she embodied Colossians 3:23 that says, “whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord.”
More than anything, Tomene wanted everyone she loved to know the saving grace of Jesus and experience His forgiveness, peace, and love.
Tomene is survived by her daughter Amanda (aka Mandy) Fisher, her brothers Bob (Denise) Griffith, Rick (Michelle) Griffith, nephews Jason (Andrea) Griffith, Tom (Kara Griffith) and nieces Sarah (Josh) Swaynie and Julie (Jake) Schreiner.
The funeral to celebrate Tomene’s life will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at Central Free Methodist Church, 828 N. Washington Ave., Lansing, MI 48906. The family will receive friends 12:00-2:00 p.m. and 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, 325 W. Washtenaw St., Lansing, MI 48933, and also one hour prior to the funeral on Wednesday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hannah’s House, P.O. Box 14013, Lansing, Michigan 48901.

April 21, 2025 at 5:52 amAmanda, this is a wonderful tribute to your faithful mother – an Easter baby and gift from heaven for your grandparents – now celebrating the Resurrection with the one true God! A pretty special notation to the greatest story ever told…Easter celebrations will always be extra special!
I pray comfort for your sorrow, and with great confidence yield to John 11:25-26.
Blessings to you and all her loved ones.

April 22, 2025 at 8:32 amManny,
Your mom was a wonderful added component to the holidays we spent together. I loved her desire to make the kids happy, to ensure everything was “just as she thought it should be,” and her happiness to be to included. Anyone could see she was incredibly proud of her successful, faith filled daughter. We truly enjoyed her. Thank you for sharing her with us Manny.
