Thomas Walter Campbell
Age 86, of Dimondale, MI, died peacefully on March 18, 2017. Tom was born in Detroit, MI, to the late Wilson E. Campbell, Sr. and S. Pauline (Long) Campbell on May 1, 1930. The family moved to the Lansing area when Tom and his brothers, Bill and Bob, were young boys. He graduated from East Lansing High School in 1948 and attended Michigan State University. In 1951, he married Myrna J. Smith, celebrating over 65 years of marriage. Tom joined the family business, Industrial Welding, Inc., at the age of 15 and worked in many capacities for the company, retiring in 1982 as Executive VP & Personnel Director. Tom was active in many civic organizations, including the Jaycees, the Industrial Executives Club, and the Lansing Planning Board.
He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church for over 60 years, singing in the church choir for more than 50 years. He was an active member of the Methodist Men’s Club and was well known for his efforts on the annual pancake supper. Tom’s hobbies included creating welded sculptures, conducting Campbell Caravan vacation tours, visiting shut-ins, and creating adaptive equipment for disabled children in the Lansing School District.
Thomas is survived by his wife, Myrna J. (Smith) Campbell; daughters, Arlie (Michael) Skory, Carol (Ron) Bell; son, Mike (Debby) Campbell; grandchildren, Megan (Jeff) Ashton, Angela Glossop, Robin Skory, Dan Glossop, Brian (Terra) Campbell, and Jay (Amanda) Glossop; and great-grandchildren, Gabriella, Olivia, Dallas, and Alice.
The memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 23, 2017, at Grace United Methodist Church, 1900 Boston Blvd., Lansing, MI. His family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday at the church and one hour prior to the service on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Grace United Methodist Church.
