Susan M. DuBois

Age 84, of Lansing, passed away September 12, 2025. She was born November 12, 1940, in Hastings, Michigan, to Myron Jay (Jack) and Frances Bellingham.

She was a 1958 graduate of Lansing Sexton High School, attended business school at Michigan State University, and worked in the Lansing School District for many years, retiring from Lansing Eastern High School.

Sue loved being active with family and friends. Summer days driving to the beach with the windows down and the radio up with her kids, boating with Dan, cooking and baking for grandkids were all things she loved. Her ability to grow tomatoes and keep us all fed were world class.

She was a 34-year multiple cancer survivor. A beautiful wife, mom, grandmother, sister, and friend. One beautiful thing about her was her ability to live fully and love family. Her family returned the love fully, and she is admired for her strength and courage to not just survive cancer, but to truly live life through it.

She and her sisters were responsible for 19 cousins, and raucous family and friend gatherings too numerous to name or count. This gene runs wild in the family to this day.

She is survived by her children Andrea (William) Stephan of DeWitt Twp, Dan (Erin) DuBois Jr of Jackson; 8 grandchildren, RJ (Athena), Jenna (Brad), Katy (Gus), Danielle, Lily, Chloe’, Zach, and Rylie; 6 great grandchildren, Emma, Brynlee, MaKinley, Kaitly, Zoey, and Jude; sister Charlene, and many nieces, nephews and other family members. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dan DuBois, her parents, her daughter Julie DuBois, and her sisters Ann Stermer, Jean Osborne, and Ruth Grosshans.

The funeral service will be held at 10:00am on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, 325 W. Washtenaw St., Lansing, MI 48933 with the Reverend Edward Ross officiating. Interment will take place later that day (3:00pm) in Lakeview Cemetery (Lakeview, Michigan). The family will receive friends from 4-7pm on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at the funeral home, and also for one hour prior to the funeral on Wednesday. Memorial contributions may be made to The Rogel Cancer Center at Michigan Medicine. https://giving.umich.edu/basket/fund/302706.

We always enjoyed talking with Sue at the family gatherings. She showed strength and determination in her fight with cancer. She was at every family event even when she wasn’t feeling good. She was a gracious lady.

Katy, Andrea, Bill, and whole family. My prayers are with all of you as you celebrate her life and talk about all of the memories she created over her lifetime. I met Sue on our week trip to Wyoming and never met a nicer person. We had a good time “visiting” and watching all the action with the younger kids. Every meeting after that she always had a smile and remembered that I like chocolate. I know you will miss her.
Prayers and hugs, Shirley
