Steven Patrick DiVietri

Age 64 of Lansing passed away December 2, 2025. He was born March 13, 1961, in Lansing to the late Bert and Mary (DeMarco) DiVietri.

Steven was a graduate of Lansing Eastern High School. He was devoted to his Catholic faith. Steven dearly loved his children Katelyn and Anthony.

Stevens’ lifelong passion for everything MSU Spartan athletics was unparalleled, he was the most devoted Spartan fan you could know, even having a moment on the MSU Spartan Football Stadium Jumbotron!  He loved his Go Green, Go White Spartan social media fan page, and the many people who followed him in his lifelong passion. Steven was well loved by numerous MSU Athletics staff and athletes, who encouraged him to “Keep on Chopping”, even in the face of a cancer diagnosis.

Surviving to cherish his memory are his children Katelyn Renee DiVietri, and Anthony Joseph DiVietri siblings: Jim (Pat) DiVietri, Michelle (Jeff) Henning, and Collene DiVietri; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, friends, and his Spartan family.

He was preceded in death by his parents Bert and Mary DiVietri, his brother Emil DiVietri, aunts and uncles Julie and Bob Grescowle and Ellen and Frank Fata.

For all their compassionate care to Steven, the family would like to thank: Dr. Craig Cole, the Oncology staff at McLaren Hospital, staff of McLaren Hospice, Miss Heather Spotts, and a special thank you to his sister Collene DiVietri for her love and devotion to her brother.

Steven, your love of Spartans is matched by no one. I met you online as we shared our love of MSU sports, and sports in general. I met you at one of the Izzo walks and we became good friends. Lunches every month and trying something new. We even got to watch one of the basketball playoff games together. I treasured our times together and will hold you in my heart forever. You were the epitome of Spartan Strong and I was honored to be a part of your journey. May you rest in peace dear friend. I am sending my condolences to your family and friends. There will never be another like you!! Love you buddy!!

Steve, you were always a wonderful and fun Co-worker to be around for me when you used to work at Sam’s Club. You and your Sister, Collene, have always been memorable to me, and I’m so happy to have been able to know you. May you rest in peace and know you will never be forgotten.

Stephen was a great guy. I had the opportunity to cut his lawn this year and he was one of my favorite clients. He always liked to talk and joke around and he always made sure he paid me at the beginning of each month for all my lawn care. I will miss his smile and he always asked me if I was going to my boat every weekend. I hope and prayed that maybe he would get better so I could take him for boat ride and fishing on the Great Lakes. You will be missed , and heaven has a new angel

Steve loved people and made friends in even the most unlikeliest of places.
Steve liked to tell the story of our meeting. Steve was still at Sam’s Club at the time. I came through his line. He asked if I was related to Nils Lofgren of his beloved E Street Band. I am not. But I started going through his line each time and we chatted all things Bruce when I did. Eventually we decided we would go together to see Bruce the next time in performed in the area. And we did in April 2012, along with my high school aged son. With Steve’s initiative we ended up on the floor next to the stage. Pretty cool. And we stayed friends and in contact thereafter. And as big a Spartan fan as Steve was, he made a little time for this U of M grad. Steve will be missed.

Stevie D, we meet online 14 years ago, we were both at a pretty low point in our life and God brought us together for a reason, I miss talking to you everyday, your constant teasing harassment, it’s not the same, we were supposed to go to lunch the week you left, I can’t come to your funeral, remember your promise!!! Love you buddy, always.
