Steve Bush
Steven Matthew “Steve” Bush, age 50, passed away peacefully in his home March 30, 2022, due to natural causes.
He was a great man who lived a great life.
Steve was born May 20, 1971, in Lansing, Michigan, to loving father and mother Robert and Linda Bush. As children, Steve and his younger sister Beckie always kept their parents on their toes. From a young age, being brought up in the church, he continued to carry his ideals with him. Steve graduated from Everett High School not knowing what his future entailed, but that is where he met the love of his life Shannon.
At the age of 20, he enlisted in the United States Navy. He served from Sept. 23, 1991, to Dec. 24, 1997. His primary specialty was as a Medical Field Service Technician. Rank was an HM3.
Together Steve and Shannon got to live in places such as Okinawa Japan and San Diego, California, where they hoped to retire.
After his time in the Navy, Steve attended Michigan State University and received a degree in Human Resources, class of 2004. He was a very proud alumni and would always be found yelling at the TV during any Michigan State basketball or football game. While attending Michigan State he worked as a student assistant for the State of Michigan and in 2001 became a stay-at-home dad for his firstborn twin girls. Using his degree in Human Resources along with the medical knowledge he gained from his time in the United States Navy he had a great career and excelled within his field.
He continues to live on with his wife Shannon and 5 children: twins, Jayda and Jasmyne, and triplets, Madyson, Steven II, and Mackynzie. Together they were blessed with a beautiful family and a beautiful life together. They instilled in their children the word of God, taught them how to use their talents, and how to be the best version of themselves. If there was anything Steve loved more than anything was his family and he wanted nothing more for them but to be successful.
He was many things, from a beloved son, husband, father, a member of Emanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Navy man, a comedian, and not to mention a great cook!
He definitely had his childish side. He loved watching looney tunes with all of his children and enjoyed constructing- monstrous Legos. It could be said he also had an addiction to the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit series which he would love to watch over and over again, especially with children Jayda and Steven II.
Steve was also known and loved by so many people. He threw some of the most memorable Super Bowl parties and always loved gathering people together, but he would trade all of that for a night with his family and good food.
His immediate family will receive family and friends beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 9, 2022, at Emanuel First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1001 N. Capitol Ave., Lansing. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. Following the service, there will be a luncheon in the church/school gym. Provided by the Church’s Missionary Society.
Steve is survived by his wife, Shannon, twin daughters Jayda and Jasmyne, and triplets Madyson, Steven II, and Mackynzie. He’s also survived by his parents Robert and Linda Bush and sister Beckie (Matthew) Grunewald; his mother-in-law, Sherryl Fundunburks Stephens; sisters-in-law, Brittany (Wyatt) Moist and Courtney (Jeremy) Larkins; aunts, uncles, cousins, and his nieces and nephews.
I love you Dad, promise to make you proud.
Your Daughter,
Jasmyne

April 5, 2022 at 8:17 pmWe have been neighbors of Linda and Bob since the 80’s. We have watched our kids grow up together, playing and going to school together. My son thought of Steve as a brother and they often talked and Jeff was Godfather to little Steven. Our hearts and prayers are with all of the family in their loss. Steven will be greatly missed as he was such a wonderful man, full of laughter and kindness to all that he would meet. I know that we will all meet again someday as that is God’s will, we know that Heaven has a very special angel watching over all of us. Steven we carry you in our hearts always and know that you will be guiding your wonderful Christian family from up on high! God speed, you touched so many with your Love of Life.

April 5, 2022 at 11:10 pmWhat a beautiful tribute to a wonderful man. I met Steve and Shannon when I lived In Lansing for a few years. My heart broke when I heard the news. Shannon, I’m sorry I’ll be out of state and won’t be able to make the trip this weekend.
I have to say that Penski said it best, “There are so many wonderful words you can use to describe Steve Bush, yet they still don’t do him justice.” Those, in addition to the beautiful words others have shared, are a testimony to what an amazing dad, husband, son, brother, and friend Steve was. My heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.

April 6, 2022 at 12:23 pmI am so very sorry for your loss. I worked with Steve in Human Resources at Consumers Energy for several years. We often bumped into each other in the kitchen on the 6th floor while preparing our lunches. He talked about his children and the twins college escapades and it was evident he had a wonderful family whom he loved very much. Sending my sincere condolences for you all.

April 7, 2022 at 2:46 pmI knew Steve through MSU Rebounders. He loved attending our Tip-Off events. We had the same last name and would have a good laugh about that but it also helped me remember him and the joy he had for Spartan basketball. Thinking of your family at this time and sending them all hugs.

April 7, 2022 at 6:11 pmAs a neighbor, I remember Steve as a child and watched him grow into a man. My children remember Steve as the older “brother” of the neighborhood. He made sure they were safe playing on our street together. His since of fairness and his compassion for others was evident in his actions and his communication.
My family holds him in our hearts, and we know the feelings that grip you at this trying time.
May God be with you on the new journey your family is now taking.
