Stefania Alimonos

East Lansing, MI

Age 22, watching over us as the angel she has always been, Stefania Stavroula Alimonos passed away on December 11th, 2018. Stefania was born September 16, 1996, in Lansing, Michigan, to Tasos Alimonos and Katerina Gialama.

A salient member of East Lansing High School’s Class of 2014, Stefania was a familiar face throughout our community. Her heavy involvement in Students Against Drunk Driving and Ceniad serve as a constant reminder of the good one person can inspire.

Upon graduating in May of 2014, Stefania stayed in East Lansing to remain close to family and friends as a student at Michigan State University. While there she furthered her passion for social change through a major in Criminal Justice. And once more she was able to align her extra-curricular activities to this passion as a part of Kappa Alpha Pi; Michigan State’s first co-ed, professional, pre-law fraternity.

The daughter of Greek immigrants, Stefania continuously celebrated her heritage and acted as a proud ambassador of Greek culture. Often taking friends with her on worldly travels that seemingly always necessitated a trip around the Greek islands. Following in Greek tradition, Stefania enjoyed time with friends, loud music, and dancing through the night.

Preceded in death by her uncle, Stefanos Gialama, Stefania is survived by her parents; her sister, Theano Alimonos; grandparents, Theano and Yiorgos Gialama, Voula and George Alimonos; aunts and uncles, Yvette and Vagelis Dallas, Vivian and Denis Gialama, Maria and Tom Hruska, and Kostas Alimonos; and her half siblings, Vivian and Giorgio Alimonos. Many other family members, cousins, and incredible friends also survive.

The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 15, 2018, at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, Lansing. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel on Friday, December 14th from 6-8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers please donate in her name to American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

Online condolences may be left for her family at www.EstesLeadley.com

My condolences to the family. I remember her smile as we would drop off our daughter at Greek camp and hear about the fun they had when we came back a week later. They both would swap clothes so they had something to remember each other by, friends forever. My heart aches for the family.

I remember when we were younger we’d always hang out. Almost every day. She was the first person to befriend my family and I when we moved to Michigan and I will forever be thankful for her beautiful presence in our life. I will never forget her contagious smile and amazing personality. She will be missed dearly by the Stewart family and you all will be in our prayers.

May her memory be eternal. What a sweet soul. To any young person reading this obituary or these comments, reach out if you need help. Your parents, siblings, friends, teachers, counselors, etc., want to help, and nothing (and I mean NOTHING) will shock them/us. Whatever pain you are experiencing, or whatever embarrassment or depression you are going through, pales in comparison to the love that is there waiting for you to embrace.

We can not express the sadness we feel at the loss of of your beautiful child. Her memory will be eternal in our hearts and thoughts! May Panagia wrap her arms around you through this time of great sorrow and beyond. Loosing another young life weakens us to the core and there are no words that can be articulated to lift the burden from our hearts.
