Shirley K. Hendy

Shirley K. Hendy, of Lansing, Michigan, passed away at age 79, surrounded by family, on September 8, 2022.  Shirley was born on March 27, 1943, in Alma, Michigan, to Maxwell and Georgia Sholty.

The most defining aspects of Shirley’s life were her travels, her love of “card club,” her dedication to her work, and most importantly her family.  Between her traveling and camping in northern Michigan, Shirley worked 47 dedicated years at Linn and Owen Jewelers.  She loved any type of adventure and never turned down an opportunity to go someplace new.  She will be deeply missed by all the lives she touched.

She is survived by her children, Sherry (John) Edwards, Jeff (Adela) Hendy, Daniel (Olivia) Hendy, Greggory (Elizabeth) Hendy, and Todd (Erika) Hendy; 18 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; her sisters, Beverly Granger and Gwen Thompson; many nieces, nephews, and other family members.  She joins in death her parents; her husband, Daniel Hendy; her grandson, Kenneth; and her two brothers, Gary and Max Sholty.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 15, 2022, at Estes-Leadley-Greater Lansing Chapel.  Her family will receive relatives and friends beginning at 10 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.  Memorial contributions may be made to Ele’s Place.

I am very grateful for Shirley’s friendship for the last 52 years. We had so many fun times. I’ll miss her very much. I’m sending prayers to the family and all of the friends she made along the way.

I always enjoyed visiting with Shirley when I went to Linn and Owens. We always had a lot to talk about. She was always so kind. She surely will be missed by many.
