Savanah-Lynn Rae Cary
“Little Bean”
Born on her mother’s birthday, August 30, 1998, in Lansing, MI, Savanah was unexpectedly called to heaven on June 20, 2025. Her passing comes as a shock to her family, friends, and loved ones alike, who are still reeling from the loss. She will be sorely missed.
Savanah was born with cognitive impairments and faced many unfair challenges, sometimes struggling with things that most people would take for granted. She battled through them, and was able to accomplish much in her short time on earth. Savanah graduated from Holt High School in 2018, and completed MSU’s Project Search Program shortly thereafter.
Savanah was a kind and caring soul, with a big heart, infectious giggle, beautiful blue eyes, and a sincere smile. She was very passionate about all animals, but especially loved Dogs. Her father recalled when a frog got caught in a mouse trap and Savanah freed him then proceeded to check on him twice later that day, hoping it would be ok.
Savanah cherished many things, most of all time with her number one (Dad) with whom she resided. She loved going out to eat with her father to their favorite spots, such as El Azteco in East Lansing, La Senorita in Traverse City, The Roadhouse in Benzonia, The Cantina in Grand Rapids, (yes, she would have wanted us to mention them all by name), or even staying home for Friday night pizza. She enjoyed long walks, kayaking, boating, and riding on her Polaris RZR side-by-side. Savanah was always excited to go shopping for new signs at her favorite store Surroundings in Manistee. She especially enjoyed the numerous and extensive trips they shared together, traveling to many fun and exciting locations. Savanah recently went on a one-week cruise with her Dad, brother Mitchell, and uncle Bruce. She loved being on the ship and finding her way around. Especially to the hot tub and free ice cream!
Savanah always looked forward to seeing and spending much precious time with her loving grandmother Joyce Cary. Whether it be a trip up north to the cottage, a simple trip to the store, or their bedtime “pillow talks”, Savanah was always happy to be with her grandma.
Savanah was preceded in death by her grandfathers, Edward Cary and Roger Ostrander, and is survived by her father Jeffrey Cary, mother Salinda Wichman, brother Mitchell Cary, grandmother Joyce Cary, grandmother Gyla Ostrander, and uncles Bruce Cary, Bill Cary, Chad Ostrander, and her uncle Chris and aunt Errin.
Loved by all, and missed by many
“What if every time we say their name,
they come back to us?
Not in body, but in memory.
In meaning.
In movement.
In the way we love harder,
Live louder,
And carry them forward.
Grief Doesn’t end.
But neither does love.
Say their name.
Speak their story.
Let them live on in the life you’re
Still writing.”
A private service will be held by invite only, at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel, in Holt, MI. Dinner immediately following the service at the Fraternal Order of Eagles, at 1111 N. Cedar St., Mason, MI.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Capital Area Humane Society.
