Sanford Ames
The final five-year plan has been completed. Sanford Preston Ames passed away March 3, 2026. Sanford, born June 12, 1945, was a lifelong resident of the Lansing area, graduating from Everett High School and Michigan State University. Employed as a manufacturing engineer at several companies, Sanford completed his career at Dart Container Corporation.
Sanford will be missed deeply by his wife, Sandra; son, Jeffery Ames (Carrie O’Brien-Ames); daughter, Carrie Byington (Jason Free); sister, Sandra Pratt-Ahern (James Ahern); brother, Michael Nicholas; grandchildren, Whitney, Anthony and Lauren Byington and Collin, Mitchell and Carson O’Brien. He was predeceased by his father, Erwin Ames; mother, Betty Lou Nicholas; stepfather, George Nicholas; brother, Paul Ames; and nephew, Ashley Ames.
The ultimate sports enthusiast, Sanford was a member of several softball teams, golf and bowling leagues, and a proud “OG” of the Cheap Shot Athletic Association. Sanford treasured his friends, old and new. Gatherings were his specialty, planning and hosting many. In later years, Sanford enjoyed traveling to Mexico with family and friends and wintering in Florida.
Sanford’s family and friends will gather at Corey’s Lounge, 1511 S. Cedar St, Lansing. on Sunday, March 15, 2026, from 3:00-6:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, people may make donations to the charities of their choice in memory of Sanford.
Arrangements are by the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel.
