Ruth L. Kositchek

Okemos, Michigan.

Our beloved mother, Ruth Rubiner Kositchek passed away at the age of 99 on January 13, 2019.
She was predeceased by her loving husband Richard S. Kositchek. They celebrated 54 years of marriage before he died in 1997.  She is survived by loving children, Jeffrey Kositchek of Birmingham Mich, Barbara Kositchek of Chicago, IL and David Kositchek of East Lansing.

Our deepest appreciation goes to Debi Jasgur, Paul Miszewski, Matt McLeod and Robin Powell.  Each of you through your generous acts of kindness, love and devotion sustained our mother throughout her years.  To her extended family and personal friends, please know how much she loved and cherished you.  Your thoughtfulness and kindness touched her deeply.  She was grateful for each one of you in her life.

Our mother enjoyed a beautiful life spending winters in Naples Florida where she had so many friends for the past 38 years.

Ruth was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of Dobie Rubiner and Abraham Rubiner in 1919.  She was the youngest of seven children. She graduated from the University of Michigan and moved to Lansing after meeting our father. They married in 1943.  Ruth was active in the Junior League of Lansing, as well as the Sparrow Hospital Guild. She also served as Trustee of Meridian Township.  She was a long time member of B’nai Brith and Hadassah as well as a member of Congregation Shaarey Zedek for over 60 years.

She taught us all to find joy in each new day.  Her sense of humor and wisdom will remain with us.  We are left with a deep sense of gratitude for her life.

A funeral service will be held at Congregation Shaarey Zedek on Wednesday January 16th at 11:00 a.m. with Rabbi Amy Bigman and Cantor Pamela Schiffer officiating.

Our heartfelt appreciation to Seniors Helping Seniors, the caring staff of Dobie Rehabilitation and Hospice of Lansing Stoneleigh Residence.

To say that Ruth is unforgettable is an understatement. I so enjoyed the time I spent with her, talking about the history of Lansing, her art, and her love for her husband and her family. My condolences to all of you.

Dear David & Family and friend Matt — Please accept my sincere condolences on the passing of your beloved mother. Over the years of my husband Jim’s long association with your family we not only had the gift of knowing your Dad, but also your wonderful, energetic and witty mother. Jim would often remark on coming home from a trip to Kositchek’s…..”That lady has class”. Your mother was an example to me personally of the importance of treasuring life and health while we could still enjoy it. My hope for all of you is that the memories you hold of Ruth, personally and collectively, will carry you through this sad time. It was a privilege to know that “classy lady” if only briefly. Sending Peace & Love to you.

Offering my sympathy to the entire Kositchek family and close friends. Your Mother was so gracious and pure class. She reminded me so much of my Mother who was friends with Ruth, wintered in Naples, Florida and also lived well into her 90’s. They were one of a kind.
I will be thinking of all of you in the next few days.

Ruth was lucky to have such loving children who cared for her and were so lovingly attentive! Although 99 years is two lifetimes we know she’ll be sadly missed! Our thoughts and prayers go out to all who knew her and especially her devoted family!

Ruth was always such a joy to visit with. I will always remember her wit, wisdom and optimism; as well as her expressions, such as “every day is a good day…and some days are better than others”. Each of us will have our own fond memories of Ruth and we are all very blessed to have known her.

Your mother lived a great life. Our family sends to your family our condolences. My mother and father were long time friends of both Ruth and Dick. Ruth was one of the last of that group that endured both the Depression and WWII. We cannot attend the service as we are out of town, but our thoughts are with you.
