Ruth (Austin) Kernen

Age 96, of Rockford, formerly of Mason, passed away on July 2, 2017. She was born in Lansing, MI, September 15, 1920, to the late Homer and Mary (Fath) Austin.

Ruth graduated from Eastern High School, was a homemaker, a member of Grace United Methodist Church, an avid painter who won local awards for her work, and was employed part-time at Lansing Community College for 25 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, C. James Kernen, and daughter Mary Kernen Murphy. She is survived by two daughters, Joyce (Don) Bouws of Orlando, FL, and Jo Beth (James) Watts of Carsonville, MI, 7 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 11, 2017, at Grace United Methodist Church, 1900 Boston Blvd., Lansing, MI. There will be no visitation.

In lieu of flowers, contributions to the American Heart Association of Michigan at www.heart.org/okemos or the National Parkinson Foundation at www.parkinson.org are desired. Arrangements are by the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel.
