Ronnie Garrison
Ronnie Dean Garrison, of East Lansing, Michigan, passed away Wednesday, August 23, 2023, at the age of 76. He was born in Mason, Michigan, on January 2, 1947, where he went on to graduate high school. Ron was a proud U.S Army veteran having served our country during the Vietnam War from 1967-1969. Ron was hired by the State of Michigan, Dept. of Transportation, after he returned from Vietnam, where he worked as a draftsman, designing roads until his retirement.
Ron was known for his great sense of humor and contagious laughter. He was a skilled craftsman and woodworker, always willing to lend a hand to others with their home projects. Bowling was one of his favorite pastimes, so much so that he was called away from the alley for the birth of his daughter Lindsey. He also spent many years on the golf course, entertaining his friends with his jokes and quick wit.
To say that his daughter and her sons were his pride and joy is putting it lightly. He bragged about them to everyone he met. He cherished every visit and reminded them to bring him a donut (which they did without fail) every time they came to see him. He absolutely loved a Long John donut from Quality Dairy.
Ron loved cars, and owned many he was so proud of over the years.
Surviving are his daughter, Lindsey Thompson (Carl Braun), and his two grandsons whom he adored, Carter and Spencer McConnell. Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Russell Garrison and Lydia Eldred, and his beloved dogs, Toby and Scooter.
The family thanks all of the staff and caregivers at the VA Battle Creek Community Living Center where Ron was lovingly cared for during the last years of his life.
A memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel, 2121 N. Cedar St. in Holt. The family will receive friends at the funeral home for one hour before the service.
Ron’s remains will be interred at Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta, Michigan, with military honors on Wednesday, September 13th at 1:30 p.m.
The family welcomes donations to The Alzheimer’s Association, in memory of Ron, as an expression of sympathy instead of flowers.
