Ronald Louis Seyka

Ronald SeykaAt age 54, Ron peacefully passed away at home, with his family at his side, on Thursday, March 5, 2020, after a year-long battle with cancer.  He was born June 27, 1965, in Lansing.

Ron was a 1983 graduate of Sexton High School and earned his associate degree in Fire Science from Lansing Community College.  His 28-year career with the Lansing Police Department included 25 years as a sworn officer, retiring in 2014 as Detective.

Ron’s first priority was to his family; he loved them deeply.  His favorite things to do were always best enjoyed with his family and close friends, including, camping at Tawas State Park, LPD camping trips to Jellystone Yogi Bear, hunting/deer camp in the Upper Peninsula, golfing with family and friends, and many road trips to wrestling camps and tournaments.  Ron enjoyed wrestling, golf and football, and worked as an assistant wrestling coach at Sexton High School and coached with the Holt Wrestling program for many years.  He was a huge University of Michigan fan!

He was the high school sweetheart and loving husband of Andrea Ellen (Burnett) Seyka.  They were married for 32 years.  In addition to his wife, Ron is survived by his sons, Zachary (Kassie) Seyka and Christopher (Lauren) Seyka; and his grandson, Owen Seyka.  He is also survived by his fathers, Gary Seyka and Ron (Nancy) Clevenger; brothers, Steve Seyka, Dan (Cindy) Clevenger and Casey (Jacki) Clevenger; brothers-in-law, Scott (Lynne) Burnett and Todd Burnett, as well as many nieces, nephews and other extended family and special friends.   He was preceded in death by his mother, Cathy Ann (Weinman) Seyka.

The Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 11, 2020, at St. Gerard Catholic Church, 4437 W. Willow Hwy., Lansing, with Fr. Bill Lugger officiating.  Ron’s family will receive friends at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent Catholic Charities in memory of Ronald Seyka.

Ron stood out as a good man and a good friend. I cannot think of a person who was not touched by his kindness. He was the guy you could talk to on your worst day and he would make you feel that you were not alone. I was blessed just by knowing him. He will be missed more than he could have ever imagined.

What seems like lifetime ago, Ron sat in my EMT classroom at LCC, so eager to learn and excited to serve. Such a good student; such a great guy. I always knew he would do some great things in Public Safety. I never lost track of him and our paths crossed several times through the years when he was at LPD and I was at Eaton County 911. My thoughts and prayers are with Andrea and your family. May you Rest In Peace Ron, well done good and faithful servant.

Ron was a very special friend and person. Throughout his battle I never heard him complain. When asked how he was doing, the most he would say was that his last treatment was a little rough. I have never seen a braver person. He will be missed. My thoughts are with his family and his many friends.
