Ronald Glenn Sandefer

Ronald Glenn Sandefer, age 89, a kind and gentle man, left his earthly home in the early hours of Saturday, November 25, 2023, to be with Jesus.  Glenn was born in Dresden, Tennessee, on September 9, 1934, to Jack and Sissie Sandefer.

Glenn was the third of four brothers.  He was preceded in death by his brothers, George and Dale, and his wife of 19 years, Ilene.

Glenn is survived by his brother, James (Rosemary) Sandefer (Lady Lake, FL) and their family; step-children, Eric (Nadira) Hinderleider (Muskegon, MI) and Susan Marsh (Harrison Township, MI); granddaughters, Alyssa (Paul) Kolis, Sarah Marsh and Anna Marsh; great-grandchildren, William, Nora, and Adeline Kolis; and nephews and nieces, Barry and Kerry Sandefer (Tennessee), Roger (Dolores) Sandefer, Lori (John) Hulyk (Brighton, MI), Kelly (Jon) Wyss (Watertown, MA), Terri Sandefer, (The Villages, FL), Linda (Richard) Reid (The Villages, FL). He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Glenn retired after 40 years of service at Michigan State University, 26 years in the Maintenance Department and 14 years as bus driver on campus and for athletic team trips.

During Glenn’s retirement years he and Ilene purchased a motor home and used it to be Snowbirds for several years before moving to Florida in 2013.  They also traveled extensively in their motor home, often with Susan’s family.  The most memorable trip was a five-week trip to California and back in 2006 with their granddaughters.  All their friends thought they were crazy to embark on such a long trip with their granddaughters who were 12, 9 and 4 at the time.  At the last minute Susan joined the trip on the way out then flew home from California while everyone else took two weeks for the return trip.  It turned out not to be such a crazy idea after all as precious memories were made and a love for travel was a legacy Glenn left his granddaughters.   His recent retirement days were filled with reading, solving word puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, and keeping up with the news.

Glenn and Ilene demonstrated their Christian faith with missionary work in Japan and Mexico, many summers at Wycliffe Bible Translators in Orlando, FL, and at South Baptist Church in Lansing, MI and Tri-County Baptist Church in Lady Lake, FL.

Glenn’s family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Heidi’s Haven Assisted Living Facility for the care and love given to him for the past several months & to Compassionate Care Hospice Services.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 2, 2023, in the chapel at Oak Grove Cemetery, 819 Berea St., St. Louis, MI 48880.

Services provided by Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, Lansing, MI.
