Roland J. "Ron" Myers
Age 87, of Holt, passed away in Battle Creek, September 21, 2010. He was born September 19, 1923, in Crystal, MI, and graduated from Crystal High School (class of 1942), where he was a proud member of the basketball team. He also graduated from Acme Business College.
Ron was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps, where he was a gunnery instructor on B29s. After being discharged from the military, he worked as an accountant/bookkeeper at Ren Plastics for 24 years. Ron built his own home in Holt, and lived there for over 40 years. He and Audrey loved camping, and traveled to nearly every State in the U.S. He enjoyed square dancing and exercising at the YMCA, where he was a volunteer and coached softball, baseball and basketball. He also coached for church teams. Ron was an active member of First Presbyterian Church of Holt. He was a deacon, elder, and at one time even director of the Sunday School program. In spite of all of his accomplishments and interests, Ron always made time for his family. He never missed any event in which his children or grandchildren participated! He was preceded in death by his wife Audrey in 2000.
Surviving are: son, Donald (Denise) Myers of Battle Creek; daughter, Terrill Ann Christensen of Crossville, TN; 4 grandchildren, Todd (Mindy Crozie) Bahle of Tempe, AZ, Trenton (Casey) Bahle of Holt, Laurie (Wade) O’Boyle of Lowell and Angela (Mike) Lemus of Battle Creek; 3 great-grandchildren, Claire O’Boyle, Lyle O’Boyle and Dylan Bahle; and stepsiblings.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 24, 2010, at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel, with Pastor George Showers officiating. A graveside service will take place at Crystal Cemetery, Crystal, MI, at 2:30 p.m. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice Residence in memory of Roland Myers.
