Roger Lewis Frayre, age 77, passed away Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at his home in Lansing, Michigan with his family. Roger was born May 27, 1937 in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan to the late Anthony Panfilo Frayre and Bernice (Foutch) Frayre. Roger was also preceded in death by his loving grandparents, May and Floyd Foutch.
Roger graduated in 1955 from Mt. Pleasant High School where he excelled in sports earning 9 letters in 5 different sports. Roger was honored into the M.P.H.S Sports Hall of Fame in 2002. In January 1955 Roger was honored to be chosen the Central Michigan Area Baseball Player of the Year. He topped the Oilers in home runs, total bases, hitting, and runs batted in. His real feats were in pitching where he compiled a record of 56 innings without allowing a run and was undefeated.
Roger attended Central Michigan University graduating in 1961 with a Bachelor of Science Degree. After college Roger and family lived in San Diego, California then returned to live in Lansing.
Roger worked in Quality Control at General Motors Fisher Body Plant in Lansing until 2000. Roger married his High School sweetheart Marilyn Jo (Dargitz) Frayre in 1956 in Clare, Michigan. Marilyn and his family were precious to him and he was dearly loved in return.
Roger and Marilyn enjoyed their trips around Michigan, neighboring states, Canada and beyond. They needed to know what was over the next hill and down the little road, making a lot of adventures together.
Roger attended many dirt track Sprint races and he enjoyed older motorcycles, his Mega Mall booth, singing, and working in his yard.
Also surviving are Roger and Marilyn’s children, Daniel (Linda) Frayre, Steven (Laura) Frayre, and Elizabeth Frayre; grandchildren, Ashly (Kammy) Frayre, Matthew (Autumn) Frayre, Victoria Frayre, and Cheryl (Rory McCaslin) Frayre; and great-grandchildren, Carson, Brody, Layla, Camden, and Preston. Also surviving are Roger’s half-brothers, Tony and Russell.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in loving memory of Roger, may be given to the Capital Area District Library (C.A.D.L.) – branch of your choice. There will be no service or visitation.
