Sheila and family,
I have so many memories of your beautiful husband. How excited he was to share you with the elk lake folk ~ and how enormously happy he was when he shared that you agreed to marry him ~ allowing all to share in the love, joy and kindness of your union. Although I’ve not physically shared in the Voneda experience for years – it lives in my heart – as does your husband and father as many beautiful memories. May peace be with you as you process this huge loss.

Rod and Elk Lake/Voneda Place go hand in hand. Voneda is my little slice of heaven two weeks every June, made even more special by the amazing Conrad family. I will miss Rod’s visits on the golf cart, bingo, his heartfelt welcome to new visitors, his sweet smile, and always hearing a new Voneda Place story. My entire family sends their love to Shelia, Matt, John and Mary.

I worked as one of Rods subcontractors all the way back to the early to mid 70’s.
A very enjoyable man and generous. In my busineses early years we didn’t have a dime to spare, while planning my companies first shop I discovered I needed an engineer to design & stamp the drawings. It was going to be cost prohibitive. Rod says I’ll work this weekend draw and engineer stamp it. He did, and refused any offer I made to pay him. Instead he said my payment will be if you become a successful subcontractor and do good work on my jobs. Thank you Rod you are forever in my heart. I’m so sorry to hear of your passing. My condolences to your family and know all their fund memories of you will bring them peace.

Sheila and family, our sincere condolences.
Having a father who worked 47 years with the Christman Company made all of the Conrad Family very close and special to my family and me. But it was Rod who I was able to share one of my most iconic lifetime moments with when in 1971 we went to Florida after Christmas. We visited Disney World the first year they opened then drove to the gulf coast without a hotel reservation. There, we unable to find a hotel, so we decided to sleep in Rod’s old Buick, in a hotel parking lot, me in the front seat, Rod in the back. Only to find out, that hotel was the home base for the chancellor of then West Germany, in Florida for a summit meeting with the US President. We were discovered by the secret service about 2:00 am and detained till about 6:00am, when we were finally released. With today’s social media, we would have been front page news, but that was 1971 and we were able to maintain or anonymity till now…
Again, our sincere condolences.
