Robert Steven Kish
Robert S. Kish was born on December 25, 1943, in Lansing, Michigan, to Steven P. and Josephine E. (Carpenter) Kish. Bob passed away on April 5, 2026, Easter Sunday, surrounded by his family.
Bob graduated from J. W. Sexton High School in 1961 and attended Franklin College in Franklin, Indiana, and Alma College in Alma, Michigan. Bob then went into the U.S. Navy for four years, stationed in Newport, RI, Northwest Cape, Australia and Whidbey Island, Washington. Upon returning to the states, Bob worked as a court recorder for the Lansing District Court. Bob continued his career working for his family business in Charlotte. Bob was the CEO of S.P. Kish Industries for 58 years. He was instrumental in developing many industrial coatings for the military, automotive and agricultural industries. The State of Michigan recognized his company with a plaque for 75 years of business, of which he was very proud.
Bob was a voracious reader who loved history, art, and all topics about the auto industry. There wasn’t much he couldn’t speak intellectually about. He enjoyed his years living on Mackinaw Island with his family, in the summers, riding horses, gardening, riding bikes and socializing with the interesting homeowners and natives on the island. Bob loved swimming, sailing, nice cars and spending time with his many cherished friends at “The Club.” He loved fine dining, good wine and brownies.
One of Bob’s greatest loves was for animals. He loved his many dogs. They were family and how he spoiled them. One of the trainers he and his husband used said, “I can train the dog, but I can’t train Bob.” We all laughed. How true. Nothing they did was bad.
Bob is survived by his devoted husband of 46 years, Robert Main; his brother-in-law, Purl Main; his sister, Margaret Kelly (Robert); his nieces, Julie Kelly, Jill Kelly Docking (Jerry), Jon Kelly (Annette); and his loving great-nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents, and aunt and uncle, Chris and Doris Rishor.
Bob would be pleased if those who wish to remember him would donate to the Capital Area Humane Society. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Online condolences may be left for his family at www.EstesLeadley.com.

April 8, 2026 at 8:55 pmI had the pleasure to know Bob for over 40 years. Sailing on “Running Free”.
Dressing for Halloween parties. Relaxing with friends in their homes in Florida, Saugatuck, East Lansing. Along with Bob Main, Bob was an endearing host, cook, friend. So many memories will keep him in my heart until it is my time.
