Robert P. “Bob” Luoma

Lansing, MI

Robert Paul “Bob” Luoma passed away peacefully in Lansing, Michigan, on Friday December 8, 2017, at the age of 79.

Bob is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Janet A. Luoma; children, Robert (Emily) Luoma II of Colleyville, TX, Pamela (Willis) Cain of Fort Laramie, WY, Gretchen Adracie of Ann Arbor, MI, and Sandy (David) Miller of Lawton, MI; grandchildren, Jessica Luoma, Robert P. Luoma III, Andrew Sine, Elizabeth Sine, Kristen Sine, Adrianna Duchene, Rachel Duchene, Grace Kaufer and Sophie Miller; great-grandson, Sturgill Dawson; brother, Jerry (Barb) Luoma; many nieces and nephews; and good friend and helper, Linda Trevino.  He was preceded in death by his parents, William V. and Martha Luoma, and brother William B. Luoma.

Bob was born on February 4, 1938, in Ishpeming, Michigan.  He graduated from Lansing Eastern High School in 1956.  Bob married his wife, Janet, in 1958.  He worked at Fisher Body, then as a builder before establishing his own business as a building contractor.  It’s impossible to drive around the Lansing Area without passing by buildings and other projects he worked on with a network of life-long friends.  Bob was a talented, creative craftsman who brought a unique style to his woodworking and gardening creations.  He worked hard his entire life, ‘retiring’ from work only when he was unable to continue.  He passed his work ethic on to his children and their children as well.  Bob, with the help of his family and friends, built the family home in Lansing and the cottage at Houghton Lake that have been the legacy to make his part of the world a better place.  We are certain he has already started building a cottage for us all in heaven.  He will be missed and never forgotten.

A memorial service to celebrate Bob’s life will be held at 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 12, 2017, at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel at 325 W. Washtenaw St., Lansing, MI  48933.  His family will receive friends an hour prior to the service.  Carrie Chavez, Bob’s niece, will officiate.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to hospice House of Mid-Michigan.  The family would like to thank Irene from Creative Wellness and Tracey along with the other wonderful caregivers at Hospice House for their care and dedication to Bob in his final days.

So many fond memories of Uncle Bob, Saturday night Pasties, fishing trip to Canada, fishing with my dad, Uncle bob and Grandpa Luoma (sitting in the back of the wood boat telling us where the fish are). He always had a smile on his face, and I’ll always remember the water fights at the cottage. Someday I will get the candy out of that buoy.
