Robert James “Jim” Earl

 Lansing, Michigan

Born October 29, 1926 in Lansing, Michigan son of the late Robert and Leila (Weber) Earl passed away Saturday, July 4, 2015, at age 88.

Jim graduated from Lansing Eastern High School in June of 1944 and attended the University of Michigan.  He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and the Korean War and was the former owner of Western Auto Store in Grand Ledge as well as Jim Earl’s Sporting Goods and Hardware and Jim Earl’s Ski Shop at the former Lansing Ski Club where he served as former President.  Jim was a longtime active member of Plymouth Congregational Church and the Men’s Morning Manna.  He had also served as Vice President of the Grand Ledge School Board.

Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Joyce (McClure) Earl; three children, Jo Anne (Dennis) Seman, Robert Douglas Earl, and Tammy Lou (John) Nemetz; 6 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two nieces and one nephew.  Jim was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Ellen Leweke.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 10, 2015, at Plymouth Congregational Church, 2001 East Grand River Ave. in Lansing with the Rev. Robert A. Higle officiating.  Interment will follow at Deepdale Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel on Thursday, July 9th, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Memorial contributions, in Jim’s memory, may be made to Plymouth Congregational Church.

So very sorry to hear of your loss, but I bet he and Dad are having a great time “catching up”! I remember so many good times our families had together as we were growing up. My thoughts and prayers are certainly with you.

I am so sorry to have learned of Jim’s passing. I lived next to you both for over 10 years and enjoyed getting to know him…a very kind-hearted man. He will be greatly missed.
