Robert J. O’Brien
Age 69, of Lansing, died September 15, 2010. He was born December 13, 1940 in Lansing to Jack and Frances O’Brien.
Bob was a lifelong resident of the Lansing area and a graduate of Resurrection High School. He retired as Fire Marshal for the City of Lansing Fire Dept. after 25 years of service. He spent his retirement years with family and friends volunteering at St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry at St. Therese, playing poker with his Wednesday group and going to every garage sale he could find. His best time was spent with the apples of his eye, his grandchildren – Kate, Maggie, Jack, Rachel and Ethan, who will miss their grandpa dearly who always spoiled them whenever they were together.
Bob is survived by his wife of 44 years, Anne; daughter, Shawn Marie (Jeff) Olds; son, Dan (Pam) O’Brien; and 4 brothers, Pat (Judy) O’Brien of Stanwood, MI, Jim (Jeanne) O’Brien of West Olive, MI, Mike (Debi) O’Brien of Canadian Lakes, MI, Tom (Chris) O’Brien of Loudon, TN.
The Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 20, 2010 at St. Therese Catholic Church, 102 W. Randolph St., Lansing, with Fr. Lawrence Delaney and Fr. Michael Williams as concelebrants. The Rite of Committal will be at Hillside Cemetery. The Lansing Fire Dept. will provide an Honor Guard. The family will receive friends at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel from 1-3 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, where a Vigil Service will be held at 7 p.m. Those desiring to make contributions can support St. Vincent de Paul Society Food Bank at St. Therese Church or St. Francis Retreat Center.

February 24, 2011 at 9:13 pmI was so very sorry to hear that Bob had passed. The O’Brien family and mine had been such close friends so many years ago. My father James considered Jack to be his closest friend and Francis endeared herself to my mother Joy. I remember when the boys went to Ressurection and played basketball, graduated, and went into the service. King was their beagle and we all enjoyed ice fishing and skating at the cottage at Bass Lake. I had the opportunity to see Bob on several occasions relating to fire dept. memories concerning my dad.
