Robert W. Day

Robert was born July 8, 1932, in Deadwood, SD, and passed away December 7, 2017, in Lansing, MI.

In 1948, Robert enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served as a staff sergeant, training troops for the Korean War. He married Alice “Ruth” Simmons on May 17, 1951, in Columbia, SC. In 1954, he joined the Livonia Fire Department where he served as engineer, lieutenant, captain, senior captain, and battalion chief. He retired in 1987 after 32 years of dedicated service.

He was committed to his family and to serving and protecting others. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, golf, gardening, and creating stained glass art.

Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth, and his son, Alan. He is survived by his son, Steven (Joanna) Day, grandsons Michael and Eric, and his loving companion, Malissia Stone.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 12, 2017, at First Presbyterian Church of Holt, 2121 N. Aurelius Rd., with the Rev. Kirk R. Miller officiating. His family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday at the church. Interment will take place in Lakeview Cemetery in Howell, MI, at 3:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Holt. Arrangements are by the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel.
