Richard Eugene DuBois, born February 8, 1939, left his life’s journey on earth and ascended into God’s hands May 7, 2017. He was preceded in death by his mother, Irene Farr; father and stepmother, R.G. (Marjorie “June”) DuBois; and brother, Donald Russell “Butch” DuBois. He is survived by his bride of 51 years, Sharon Nobach DuBois; his much loved son, Matthew DuBois; aunt, Helen Schaefer; sister-in-law, Kay DuBois; and extended families and friends.

After high school he enlisted and proudly served as a U.S. Marine in San Diego, California. He was honorably discharged and returned home and then worked in a variety of jobs: REO Motors, as a carpenter, McKay Lumber Company building A Frame cottages, and then retired in 1998 as a Sears service technician. His passion besides watching Matt play basketball or attending MSU games with him was gardening, fishing, playing cards, bowling, genealogy, and reading, especially WWII histories/stories. For several years the winters were spent in Tucson, AZ, visiting family then returning home in the spring. Over the years there were family pets (Corky, Midnight, Amie) that he enjoyed playing ball with in the house to the detriment of anything on end tables/coffee table. Always sorry for anything broken or damaged but continued his “fun” with them for a long time.

The family would like to thank all the medical staff at McLaren Hospital: Dr. Bohrer, nurses Jackie, Toke, and Melinda, Chaplain Phil, and many others. Shawnee was very compassionate and kind, and whose hugs and caring were of great value and deeply appreciated by the family.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 16, 2017, at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel, with visitation one hour before the service. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to go to the Capital Area Humane Society or the Alzheimer’s Association.

I will miss my tallest cousin. He seemed like a gentle giant to us when we were little. Throughout our family history, Cousin Dick was one who never needed words to speak kindness. His smile was warm and true. Matt and Sharon, our prayers are with you for strength and comfort, love and peace.
