Richard C. Slocum
Age 90, of Houston, TX, formerly of Lansing, MI, passed away March 17, 2017. He was born on April 11, 1926, in Hubbardston, MI, to the late Virgil and Wilma Slocum.
Richard proudly served in the Army during World War II. He retired as a millwright from GM and was a member of UAW Local 1618. He was also a member of the American Legion and the Elks Lodge. As a youth, he enjoyed playing baseball and played AAA fast pitch softball in the Lansing area. He was an avid golfer and a devout MSU Spartans fan.
Richard is survived by his high school sweetheart, his wife of 69 years, Mildred; children, Pamela Slocum, Randall (Nancy) Slocum, and Rick Slocum; 2 grandchildren, Mark and Kristin Slocum; brother, Jerald Slocum; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family members.
The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 25, 2017, at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, with Pastor Wesley Emerson officiating. Interment will follow in Deepdale Memorial Gardens. His family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Disabled American Veterans or the Wounded Warrior Project.
