April 22, 2020 at 4:51 pmCame on the department with Rick in 1974. Worked many a shift with him which always included something wild happening. One incident comes to mind. Rick and I are in the middle of a huge neighborhood fight. We are losing control quickly when suddenly I hear a police whistle blowing long and loud. I turn and see Rick standing between 2 combatants with his hands in a time out position. He then points at the two and tells them they are being whistled for unsportsmanlike conduct or something like that. Everyone is just frozen. Within seconds everyone is laughing and saying what the hell did he just do!!! It effectively ended the fight. Who else but Ricky G!! Golden Glove nights at the old Civic Center and State Finals in G.R. were always fun and sometimes crazy. I will miss him immensely. Our thoughts and our prayers for all his family.

April 22, 2020 at 5:46 pmRick will be missed. We where promoted to detective and sergeant at about the same time We worked nights as command officers and had some good times. We had a lot of laughs over the years. To say I was shocked, when Monty stopped by to tell me, is an understatement.

April 22, 2020 at 6:07 pmRick and I were friends growing up, he lived across the street from me. Although older by a year, when your kids you don’t recognize that, only he was the kid next door. We had some great times in our neighborhood and I loved going over to Ricks house playing basketball in the drive or ogling his dads N-track railroad village in the basement of the house. I had the honor of having Rick be the best man at our wedding, I and my bride miss him dearly. It just serves to remind you that nothing is given, life is a blessing and sometimes way to short. Rest In Peace my friend, until we meet again.

April 22, 2020 at 6:49 pmI’m sorry to hear this. Rick was a easy going, great guy. He treated people well. I can remember when he brought his dad with him to one of my “Ditka Trips” football game tailgates we organized for years. Neither had ever gone before. He will me missed for sure.

April 22, 2020 at 6:58 pmRick had his work cut out for him as he entered the role as a Police Officer. His father would be a no nonsense Chief of Police and he always held Rick to a higher standard. Rick seemed almost undaunted by the responsibility placed upon him. He was a very nice guy and always seemed to want to please, no matter the sssignment. He will be missed by many and I’m glad that I got to know him.

April 23, 2020 at 5:07 pmMy condolences to the family of Rick. I was shocked when I first heard of his passing, I can recall his easy going soft and low voice when he would talk about something, I was on the LPD about 7-8 years before Rick came along and soon learned that Rick was, “Little Grump” as his father was sometimes called, “Grump Gleason”. As some years passed by, Rick and I started calling each other “Brother”. He was little brother and I was big brother. We were not related… we just happen to spell our last names the same way. We also had fun challenges to each other around the time of the Army-Navy football game in late fall. This was due to the fact he was in the Michigan Army National Guard and I was in the Navy Reserve. R.I.P.
