Rebecca Lee "Becky" Davis

Becky DavisAge 67, of Lansing, MI, passed away November 4, 2016. She was born November 20, 1948, in Gaston County, North Carolina, to Minnie and Harold Brown.

Preceding her in death were her mother, Minnie Lee Fissel; father, Harold Dunken Brown; stepmother, Marie Mae (Morehouse) Brown; stepfather, James Fissel; sister, JoAnn (Brown) Smoyer; mother-in-law, Elise Davis; father-in-law, John Henry Davis; brother-in-law, James Buchanan; and baby Dana.

Surviving are her husband, Johnny E. Davis; daughters, Jessica E. Davis and Joanne E. Davis; grandson, Joseph J. Henry; sisters, Annie Marie (Dennis) Sloan, Cynthia Sue (Bill) Golombiski, Cleo Holden, and Dana Russel; brothers, Danny Dee Brown and Kenneth (Gail) Fissel; sisters-in-law, June Davis (Daniel Dicks), and Jennifer Davis; brother-in-law, Joseph (Carole) Davis; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, grand relations, in-laws and friends.

Becky was a light that shined through each and every one she met. As a young woman she was a top bartender and bowling alley attendant, the best you could find for miles around. After finding and marrying the love of her life, Johnny, in 1980, she worked different jobs mainly in customer service and the custodial business (namely Hull’s Janitorial Service). Becky had her first daughter Jessica in 1981 and her second daughter Jodi in 1986. Even though she had already been a “Mama” to so many others before, a new chapter of being a true Mother began. Becky was the exception when it came to the neighborhood “Mom/Granny Beck.” Her door was Always Open to children and their families from all around. During this time was when Becky began her 17-year journey working for the Lansing School District; primarily at Allen Elementary. While an avid employee of the LSD, Becky was a Girl Scout Leader, a classroom attendant, the PTA president for many years, and the “go to” fundraising advocate many times over. Before retirement in 2013, she was also a seamstress for Peckham Industries.

Some of the other joys of her life were that of her hobbies which included being an excellent cake decorator and dessert maker of all kinds. She took great pleasure in bowling, which was something she looked forward to participating in most of her life. She loved to sew and personally made plenty of garments by hand including her own wedding attire. Becky loved her flowers and plants, and she had a true “green thumb.” Bird watching and gardening were some of her great passions. Becky was a caretaker who always had a listening ear and open arms. She taught everyone she came in contact with how to shoot for the stars, believe in their dreams, and to be the best they could ever be! Mom was the best story teller who handed out words of wisdom by her own experiences, love, and loyalty.

Becky has been my best friend since the day I met her over 30 years ago. Unfortunately we had to move to AR in 1984. We have seen each other and talked on phone ever since. Becky knew me better than I knew myself. Whenever I came up to MI I always had a place to stay. Becky would then call all of our time Coffee time. First thing I did when visiting would be to grab a cup of coffee. We were there for each other (mostly her for me). I will miss you Becky… I love you and your family. I will see you again with your flowers and singing with the angels!!!! You are no longer dealing with pain and walking like before. Love you again and will be glad to see you again…Mary
