Raymond E. Mizga

We are sad to announce the passing of Raymond E. Mizga. Raymond was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years, Virginia Mizga, his parents Henry and Sarah Mizga and his brother Richard Mizga.

Surviving are his children: Alton (Deb) Mizga and their children Brandi, Heidi and Cheri; Julie Mizga-Karr and her children Victor and Audrey; Becky (Brian) Kindel; John (Peg) Mizga and their daughter CeCe; and Jim M (Tonya) Mizga; several grand and great-grandchildren; and his faithful dog, Jack.

Ray was a veteran of the US Army and retired from Lansing School District small machine repair. After retiring, he spent most of his free time scrapping metal, gardening and taking care of the elderly neighbors. Ray was also known for his pudding-stone garden.

He will be remembered for his love of conversation. He was very generous and wouldn’t let you leave empty handed. Ray and Virginia also enjoyed spending time at their cabin they called “The Shack” on the Chippewa River.

Ray and Virginias’ house was the place where all the neighbor children would gather, everyone was welcome and became honorary family members, many Ray and Virginia “adopted” as their own well into adulthood.

Although the funeral will be private, at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, December 28, 2020, family and friends are welcome to gather and join the funeral procession to escort Ray from the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel to East Lawn Memory Gardens.

In lieu of flowers the family respectfully requests contributions in Raymond’s name to Sparrow Hospice Services, Ingham County Animal Control & Shelter or the charity of your choice. Arrangements are by the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel.

Ray Mizga was such a kind and happy person. He and Ginny were life long friends with our parents and ultimately they were our family too! We will miss his love for auctions, estate sales and how he lite up when he found a treasure at one of the sales! We will miss hearing him say, “hey, there’s those Dodge girls” with a welcoming smile and hug for each of us. Rest in Peace Ray, Love the Dodge Girls! Spring Dodge Kroll, Sara Dodge Morrison and Colette Dodge Schartzer.

Although I only recently had the privilege of meeting Ray, he was always fun to talk to and was a real charmer.
It was obvious how loved and cared for he was.
So very sorry for your loss.

I’m not sure we’ve met kinder people than Ray and Ginny. They introduced our parents to each other and went to Round Lake dancing on a double date! Ray always had a smile and a hug for the Dodge Girls, we’ll always remember our families getting together and he always has near finds to show us! Sending love and sympathy to you all, may your memories bring you comfort at this difficult time. Sending you prayers and peace. Sara and Cris, Spring and Alan and Colette and Bud.

Sounds like they were match makers! Ginny and George Sr’s were cousin and she was best friend’s with Shirley and so without your parents introduction we wouldn’t be where we are. I have fond memories of our boys enjoying your Dad taking them for rides in his dune buggy. They made us feel so welcome. I’m sure George and his brothers have fond memories of being with your family

Ginny and Ray were my second set of parents. Ginny grew up across the street from us. When their children came along they were my playmates and grew up together. Ray and Ginny will always live because of all the great memories. My heart felt sympathy to the Mizga family.

I lost touch with Ray and Ginny over the years but used to see them in Meijer every now and then. I remember nights playing cards at their house many years ago. They were a very special couple.
