Randy John Lamie
Age 61, of Laingsburg, Michigan, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, September 22, 2023.
He is dearly missed by those he left behind: his son Tyler, wife Lauren, and their two children, James and Everett of Richland, Michigan; his son Andrew, wife Kaitlynn, and their daughter, Blaire of Shelby Township, Michigan; and his daughter Megan, and husband Brendan Goodrich of Holt, Michigan. He is also survived by his mother, Beverly Lamie of Marlette, Michigan, and sister Renee (Mark) Bulger of Sanger, Texas. Randy is survived by many other cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Clifford John Lamie, and niece Chelsea Elann Bulger.
Randy was born on September 11th, 1962, in Marlette, Michigan, where he grew up. A member of the graduating class of 1981, Randy attended Marlette High School where he played football, wrestled, and ran track. Randy received his bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Michigan Tech University in 1986. While at Michigan Tech, Randy participated in Winter Carnival, and loved competing in the all-nighter snow statues competition. Even after graduating, Randy had a true love for Houghton and tried to visit often.
Following graduation, Randy settled in Holt, Michigan, where he began his lifelong career at Dart Container, where he successfully filed two patents. During his time in Holt, he had three beautiful children, became an avid cyclist – biking from Lansing to St. Ignace more than half a dozen times, served as an enthusiastic soccer coach to Tyler and Andrew, and a passionate cheerleader for Megan whether she was playing flute or a tennis match.
Randy loved to solve a good puzzle, the more challenging the better. Whether he was creating a computer game to help his kids learn multiplication tables, identifying just the right spice for his homemade salsa, or the angle of a perfect flop shot, Randy was at his best when he was tackling a problem – no matter how simple or complex.
Randy was a fiercely curious person with a voracious appetite for learning. He passionately explored a range of hobbies throughout his life including woodworking, photography, coin-collection, leatherwork, beer-making, and the elusive job of building the perfect golf putter.
Above all, there was nothing Randy enjoyed more than the company of his family. Whether spending time hunting morel mushrooms at “mushroom camp,” hitting the links for a round of golf, or spending an evening out on his patio overlooking the lake – he found everything in life to be more enjoyable when surrounded by his family. Randy had recently taken on the role of “Grandpa” and enjoyed spending time and playing with each of his three grandchildren.
Randy will always be remembered for being “fantastic”, his ability to start a conversation with anyone he met, and his relentless pursuit of his next passion project.
A visitation will be held for friends and family at Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel (2121 Cedar Street, Holt, MI 48842) on Saturday, October 14th, 2023, from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m., with a funeral service beginning at 2:00 p.m. Following the service, the family asks you to join them for a celebration of life at the American Legion Hall (1240 W. Grand River Rd., Laingsburg, MI 48848). In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to First Tee of Eastern Michigan, a nonprofit empowering kids and teens through the game of golf.

September 26, 2023 at 2:14 pmI started working at Dart fresh out of college 27 years ago. In my first year I had the honor of working with Randy on many different projects. He was also happy to share his knowledge and helped me grow in my career. We became fast friends, spending time talking in and out of work discussing his many interests and hobbies. There aren’t many people like him and it’s with a heavy heart that I have to say goodbye way too soon.

September 27, 2023 at 9:39 amWow! What a shock to learn of Randy’s sudden passing. Randy and I worked together for most of Randy’s 37 years on print related projects. I have too many fond memories to mention but always appreciated Randy’s creativity, engineering skill, enthusiasm and dedication to those projects. I will say there were times when I would be evaluating one idea and Randy had already moved on to another improved variation. Just an example of him always improving on his own ideas. Randy solved many difficult problems and is credited with many innovative designs at Dart.
Another memory, Randy told me a local restaurant had a dish named after him, I didn’t believe him so I asked the owner and sure enough he had a dish with his name on it. Randy, you will be missed by many, however you touched many lives in your short time on earth, rest in peace my friend!
My thoughts and prayers are with family!

September 27, 2023 at 8:06 pmSorry to learn of Randy’s passing. I retired after 40 yrs with Dart Container in 2015. Many of the preceding years I was very familiar with him. We never actually worked together that I can remember, but any association with him was always pleasant. Always cheerful. RIP Randy. Glad I have great memories from knowing you.

September 28, 2023 at 9:14 pmI am still in shock of the loss of Randy. I became friends with his daughter Megan at Dart in 2017, and once when we both were in Chicago for work, I introduced myself and Randy and I’s friendship bloomed from there. He took me downtown Chicago twice and I will never forget that he convinced me to eat Duck Liver (the menu was written in French), and how you always had new adventures and hobbies that you were always excited to tell me about.
You helped pave me to be a better person, to stand up for myself more, and to assist in projects that I was excited about. Thank you for always lending an ear to vent, for letting me join in some family time at the lakehouse, and for accepting me as a “extra” daughter. I will miss you a lot!
My thoughts are with your family during this hard time

September 29, 2023 at 5:21 pmI was a freshman when Randy was a Junior, we had Terry Conrad’s technical writing class together, as one of a few freshman in the class Randy went out of his way to be friends. Maybe being on the football team helped, but I think he was genuinely a great person and treated all with respect! It’s sad to think he’s passed, in reading the stories from others, he will be missed by many, most of all by his family. Knowing we haven’t talked since maybe 1981 or 82, I believe if we had run across each other we would have started up the conversation as if it was yesterday! He will be missed! So sad!

September 29, 2023 at 5:58 pmEveryone who hears of Randy’s passing including myself is in disbelief. One day you are enjoying a round of golf with him and the next an email informs you of a tragedy. Reading the news brought great sadness and I wondered why. My sincerest condolences to his family which were very close to him. Randy was a very good friend on mine. We golfed and worked on several projects at Dart container together and his engineering skills often were key to successful projects. He was always fun and upbeat. He often had small projects he worked on during lunch. My office, when I worked at Dart, was directly across the hall from his. One lunch hour I hear this whirling and clanking sounds, sort of like a change counter at the bank. I investigate and the sound was coming from Randy’s office. Randy had made a machine that would sort pennies finding the older ones that were actually made of a high percentage of copper. Randy said they are worth about two or three cents vs. the one cent face value and he cashes them in for the copper content. He would also check the dates of these high copper content coins since they were also old hoping to find a collector coin potentially worth a lot. He new he needed a high volume of pennies to sort so he would go to the bank and buy about $100 worth of rolls of used pennies. I looked in his office and he had a couple five gallon buckets full yet to sort. They were so heavy you couldn’t pick one up. Only he knows how much he made in this adventure. RIP Randy. We miss you.

October 12, 2023 at 12:25 pmWe learned about Randy, mainly through his dad, Cliff and Bev. We are members of the motorcycle club they helped start.
During gatherings, conversations would turn to family and points of quiet pride would shine.
Cliff and Bev shined when talking of Randy, his family, personal and professional successes.

October 13, 2023 at 10:37 amMy heartfelt condolences to my cousins Tyler, Andy and Meg along with all of Randy’s friends and extended family. I am so sorry for the loss of your Dad. He was always kind to me and he will be missed. I will never forget him removing the fishing hook out of my leg at the lake house, the cool brown hat he would always wear, him sleeping in the chair at Thanksgiving after enjoying Grandma Pat’s clam chowder. I am sure they’re enjoying a beer together in heaven. I always loved his super cool fish tank with all of the colorful fish and corrals. He was a kind and loving uncle and he will be missed. I will cherish the memories until we meet again Uncle Randy.
