Ramiz Hourani

The family of Ramiz Tamir Hourani celebrates a life that was full and rich. Ramiz was born March 3, 1921, in Deirmimas, Lebanon, and passed away November 14, 2016, surrounded by his loving family.

Ramiz came to this country in 1957, and was proud to become a U.S. citizen, but he still cherished his homeland. As a tailor by trade, he worked at several men’s clothing stores in the Greater Lansing area and retired from Kositchek’s in 1986. He still continued to work from home until his late 80s. He was a faithful member of First Presbyterian Church of Lansing for over 50 years, where he also served as a deacon.

He is survived by his children, Tamra (Joseph) Daley, Linda (George) Snyder, and Thom (Ruth) Hourani; 8 grandsons, Jeff, Matt (Jackie), Christopher, David, Michael (Lauren), Josef, Anthony, and Thom Jr.; 2 brothers, Rev. Joseph (Lee) Hourani and Dr. Benjamin (Dee) Hourani; sister, Josephine Fawaz; and many dear nieces, nephews and special friends. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Rose, in 1998, and his brother, Jacob.

His family wishes to give a special thank you to Dr. Michael Hourani for taking such good care of their father over the years.

The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 19, 2016, at First Presbyterian Church of Lansing, 510 W. Ottawa St., Lansing. A private interment will take place in Evergreen Cemetery. His family will receive friends from 4:30-8:30 p.m. on Friday at the First Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to his church, the American Diabetes Association, or a charity of one’s choice in memory of Ramiz Hourani. Arrangements are by the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel.

Tammy and Linda,
I am sorry to read about your Dad’s passing. He was the nicest guy. Even though I did not see him often he always remembered my name and something about me, great memory. I know you will miss him but now he is with your Mom.

While I met him only once, at Anthony’s high school graduation party last year, what an impression he left on me. Such a sweet, kind man and a joy to talk to. We spent much of the time discussing our shared heritage and his family and enjoyed every minute of the conversation. Thom, Ruth, Anthony and Thom I am very sorry for your loss and am sure you have many wonderful memories to treasure.

Dear Linda, Thom, and Tammy,
Paula Solomon told me about the passing of your father and I was so sorry to hear about his passing. I know your beloved dad was very dear to all of you and what excellent, loving care he has received in his elder years. It was always fun meeting your parents at Aunt Pauline’s gatherings-made me feel like part of your family too. Remember, your parent’s love (an eternal gift) and the times you shared together will always be with you and a legacy you can pass on from generation to generation. You are so blessed to have such a rich heritage. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your extended family.
