Peter Anastor

Age 83, passed away unexpectedly in his sleep, on February 4, 2025.  He was born February 17, 1941, in Flint, Michigan, a first generation American to Greek immigrant parents, Christ and Margaret Anastor.  Peter graduated from Flint Central High School, then Wayne State University with his undergraduate and law degree.  After graduating, Peter worked for the Genesee County Prosecutor’s office before going into private practice, where he represented the everyday client.  In 1986, he was elected Judge of the 68th District Court in Flint, Michigan, where he initiated a drug diversion program.  As a judge, he was known for being consistent, fair and conscientious.   He also worked to develop other programs for efficiency and fairness in the court.   After retirement in 2003, he volunteered as a court mediator.

He was proud of his Greek-American heritage and was a longtime, active member of Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, where he served on the church board and assisted in implementing many Greek Festivals.  Peter had a good sense of humor, enjoyed traveling and listening to his grandchildren talk about their activities and interests.  He will be greatly missed.

I had the pleasure of knowing Pete for several years through the Delta-Waverly Rotary Club. He always had a smile, and positive attitude. He was a very proud dad and grandpa, and was always happiest telling grand children stories. He will be missed.

Dearest Alice, you & your family have my deepest condolences for the passing of Peter. Although I didn’t see him much since you moved to Lansing, I have the best memories of him, a friend with high standards of morality, honesty, loyalty & a very decent man. May his memory be eternal, may God give you & your family strength, resilience & patience to go through the hard times ahead of you. Nick passed away last September, so I know what you are going through. God bless you & your family.

My sincere condolences to your family. I was a very young attorney when I first appeared before HIs Honor, and I was lucky to have been in front of him for well over a decade before he retired. He was an excellent Judge and an even better man. To say he made me a better attorney is a complete under-statement. He made me a better person, for which I’m forever grateful. God Speed, Judge.

As a young rookie Police Officer in 1985 I went before Judge Anastor . I had written a defendant a ticket for brandishing a firearm. Judge Anastor called me to the bench and gave me a gentle education on what I should have charged the defendant with. I never forgot that. During the next few years I appeared before the Judge to get warrant approvals. On one occasion , Judge Anastor was speaking before a woman’s group at Wallis supper club. Judge Anastor directed me to speak to the audience while he reviewed my warrant request. I never forgot that. I tell these two stories because It shows what type of man Judge Anastor was. He made those that he came into contact better persons. Rest in peace Judge.

Words of sympathy feel inadequate in expressing grief and sorrow for a loss of our good friend and fellow Rotarian, Peter. Sending a warm embrace and all my love to the surviving family members during this sad time.

I would like to extend my deepest sympathy and condolences to the family of Pete Anastor. I met Pete when I began practicing law in 1976 in Genesee County. Like many attorneys in this community we would contact each other when we had legal issues that the other could address or refer clients with issues the other specialized in. Pete was a great mentor and lawyer. When he decided to run for judge I was overjoyed and spent time leafleting his campaign literature in Flint neighborhoods around Kettering. He was a great judge with a fine judicial temperament which, along with his legal experience, made it a pleasure to work on a case in his court. Pete, along with his sister Georgia, who I had the pleasure of representing as attorney for URGE, were among the pillars of Flint government and Flint justice that made Flint a great place to work. He has and will be missed. May he rest in peace knowing he made a very positive impact on his community and peers.

Dear Alice and family,
So sorry to hear of Peter’s passing. I first met Pete years ago when we were assigned to work together at a church fundraiser. We were outside handing out Greek dinners to customers driving up for the food. We had lots of fun and laughs which made the work so much more enjoyable.
I will always remember Pete as a kind man with a great sense of humor.
May his memory be eternal.
