Patricia A. Alcenius

On December 13, 2025, just eight days before her 97th birthday, Patricia Ann Alcenius (known to most as Pat) passed into eternal life and the arms of her Lord. She was surrounded by three generations of women—her daughter, granddaughter, and great-granddaughter—who were by her side at the end, a testament to her living legacy of strength and independence.

Born in Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1928, and married in 1943, Patricia was widowed in 1961 at the age of thirty-one when her beloved husband, Jack Alcenius, passed away. She courageously raised their three children as a working mother, with her children aged eight, six, and four at the time. Her perseverance and devotion became the foundation of her family’s resilience.

Pat built her career at the Lansing Insurance Agency, which later became the Abbot Insurance Agency, working in customer service until her retirement. After retiring, Pat dedicated her time as a volunteer at Sparrow Hospital, assisting in the surgical lounge. Throughout her life, Pat was fiercely independent, maintaining her sharp wit even as her body weakened.

A long-time and active member of Emanuel Lutheran Church in Lansing Michigan, Pat supported and was past Treasurer of the Women’s Missionary Society and participated in craft work fundraising. She was also involved with the Bretton Woods Garden Club, sharing her passion for community and connections with people.

Pat was preceded in death by her husband Jack, her parents William and Ella (Karrer) Finkbeiner, her brothers Herb and Robert, and her sister Evelyn Vogel (Lester). She is survived by her children: Michael Alcenius (Gary Lindensmith), Karen Garrison, and Judy Taunt (Larry); her grandchildren: Marisa McClean (Steve), Carley Snopkowski (Steven), Amanda Taunt (Mike Mossman), and Allison Taunt (Michael Renauer); and her great-grandchildren: Alex, Colin. and Claire McClean, Jack, Luke, and Miles Snopkowski.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff on the fourth floor of Clark Retirement Community at Franklin, as well as the angels at Trinity Health Hospice, for their compassionate care.

Visitation and Services will be held at Emanuel First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1001 N. Capitol Ave. Lansing, MI, on Friday, December 19, 2025. Visitation will be at 10:00am, with services at 11:00am and a luncheon to follow. A private interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery at 2600 E. Mt Hope Ave, Lansing, MI.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Emanuel Lutheran Women’s Missionary Society and Trinity Health at Home (Hospice) 1027 S. Beacon Blvd., Grand Haven MI 49417.

Arrangements are by the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel.

I married Pat’s brother Bob in1981. It took some time, but I finally met Pat. My first impression was how she resembled her mom (of which I only saw a picture of). Over the years it became a few visits and a lot of phone calls. I found Pat to be a very resilient person. As we aged I always told her she was my inspiration. I’m glad I was able to know her. Rest in peace Pat. May God bless you.

Pat was my neighbor at Lake of the Hills, I always enjoyed our conversations that we had. I am deeply sorry for your loss. I missed Pat when she moved but never forgot her. My condolences to Judy, Karen and Michael and your family, she always talked about all of you and was very proud of her family.

Rest in peace. Pat
