Nancy D. OrtNancy Ort was born in Gaylord, Michigan on November 5, 1932. She passed away October 31, 2020, 5 days short of her 88th birthday. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert S. Ort, MD. She leaves three daughters, Linda (Dan) Staebell, Teresa (Randy) Nugent, and Kim Miller (Sam Davis). She had a large extended family with 7 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and 4 stepchildren and their families. Nancy attended Eastern High School and Michigan State University earning an Associate Degree. She was involved in raising her daughters and was always active in school activities such as PTA and room mother. She volunteered with Vacation Bible School at her church, Mount Hope UMC where she was a member for most of her life. While in Florida, she was active as a volunteer at her church and the local Habitat for Humanity office. Nancy financed a home for a family in Florida in honor of Bob after his death. She and Bob loved to travel and entertain. She returned to Michigan after Bob’s passing to be closer to family. She continued to volunteer working for many years with Christian Social Services and at the Sparrow Hospital gift shop. We will miss her generous nature, sense of humor and wonderful family meals. Mom was a great cook!

Thank you to all who helped with her care including McLaren Hospice and Holt Friendly Home. Those desiring to make a donation in her memory can through the Capital Area Humane Society or Mount Hope UMC in Lansing, Michigan. Services will be for the family only, due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. Nancy was a wonderful lady and I enjoyed work with her. I always looked forward to us getting together when she would tell me stories about her family which she loved dearly. Heaven has gained an angel, what a beautiful soul.

Alton and I remember Nancy and her husband, Bob, as they both attended our Marsinger Sunday School class at Mt. Hope United Methodist Church. She missed Robert, after he passed. She had this puppy that she doted on, and he gave her much comfort in her lonely days. We have memories of our days at Pentwater, MI. I am smiling at one memory. Nancy was wanting the recipe for my Cloud Cookies, a Christmas cookie. She asked several questions like “Does it have butter it it? Does it have confectioners sugar? Does it have eggs? Does it have almonds? Before I knew it, she had the entire recipe! I am still smiling over that memory. Maybe you can make those “Clouds Cookies” in heaven, for Jesus! Love you Al & Jan Granger

Nancy was a kind and compassionate woman. During her volunteer time as a phone volunteer at Christian Services, she showed the light of Christ to many hurting individuals and families. I’m a retired co-Director at CS and am so glad I met and worked with Nancy. My condolences to her family and friends. Liz Youngquist

I remember Nancy fondly from the Sparrow gift shop. She was a delightful lady and a great volunteer. I am so sorry for the family’s loss. She touched so many people through her life of service, family and friends.
