Nancy (Schlichting) Morley

Nancy (Schlichting) Morley, passed peacefully surrounded by her beloved family on June 24, 2021.

She was born in Lansing to William and Dorothy Schlichting.

Nancy attended Sexton High School and Michigan State University, where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education, and was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority.

Nancy was one of the first women on the Michigan State cheerleading squad in 1956, and cheered in the Rose Bowl game in Pasadena, CA, (which the Spartans won that year).

Nancy also went on to receive her Master’s Degree in Educational Psychology at Michigan State.

She enjoyed a long and successful teaching career in Lansing, which culminated in her position as a Gifted and Talented Coordinator for the school system.  Always encouraging, she was a positive influence on her students.

Nancy married the love of her life, Jack Morley, and together, they built a beautiful beach home on the shores of Lake Michigan, where they spent many happy summers with their children and grandchildren.

A talented watercolor artist, Nancy inspired her family to have a love of art, nature and books. She enjoyed traveling for art classes and fun with her dear friends Pam Wilburn, Mary Ann Chadzynski, and Karen DeVine.

Nancy enjoyed playing golf, tennis and remained a lifelong Spartan fan.

Nancy is loved and greatly missed by her three children, Kim (Bill) Salow, Jack Jr (Kim) Morley, and Kathryn (Gary) Luiza. Adored by her 9 grandchildren, John (Bobbie) Salow, Anne and Mary Salow, Zach (Erika) Morley, Jennifer (Joe) Serio, Madison (Michael) Hutchins, Lauren Peffers, Joshua and Dylan Luiza, and 3 great grandchildren, Kayleigh, James and Isaac.

Nancy was predeceased by her husband Jack in 2018, after 62 years of marriage.

She is survived by her sister, Katie Steinacker, brothers-in-law Keith Morley and Robert Morley, sister-in-law, Karla Reilly and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Special thanks to the caring doctors, nurses and aides at Stoneleigh Hospice Residence.  Memorial gifts in Nancy’s name may be made to Stoneleigh Hospice Residence, 3411 Stoneleigh Dr, Lansing, MI 48910.

A private celebration of life will take place at a later date. Arrangements are by the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel.

Mom, we love you and wish you a joyful reunion with Dad, and a peaceful view of Lake Michigan together.
