Monica A.J. Patton

Monica Ann Juanita Patton was born in Philadelphia, PA, on February 19, 1957, to Clarence Eugene Patton and Kathryn “Kitty” Patton.  She was the first child of two born in the Patton family with one sister Diane “Dina” Flanagan.

Monica grew up and went to Catholic Schools for her K–12 years in Philadelphia, PA. Monica was an active child and pre-teen participating in Joan Meyer’s Dance Studio for tap and ballot, running track, was an avid swimmer, and was a model for a major department store, John Wanamaker, in Philadelphia, PA.  After graduating from high school, Monica attended Temple University until an untimely illness left her debilitated for the remainder of her life. Monica remained with her mother, Kathryn “Kitty” Patton, most of her life until Kitty’s death in November of 2012, after which Monica lived with her sister, Diane “Dina” and brother-in-law James Flanagan.  Monica remained an active member of the Charter House located downtown Lansing, MI, since 1998.

Monica was a sixteen-year survivor of breast cancer but her two-year battle with lung cancer ended her life of 61 years on April 30, 2018, in Lansing, MI.

Monica was preceded in the death by her mother, Kathryn L. Patton, November 2012, and father Clarence E. Patton, April 2015. Surviving family include sister Diane and brother-in-law James Flanagan; nephews, Alexander and Nigel Flanagan; aunts, Juanita Feggins, La Gracia Jones, and Cheryl Jones; uncle, Billy Jones; and a host of cousins and extended family members.

The funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 5, 2018, at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel. Her family will receive friends beginning at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Memorial contributions may be made to Eaton Community Palliative Care, in memory of Monica and her mother, Kathryn Patton.

James, Dina, Nigel and Alexander, I am truly sorry for this loss to your family. I did not know Monica personally however through James’ stories, she sounds like an absolutely wonderful woman. I pray Gods peace and comfort for you all.
