Maryon Sowton
Age 81, of Lansing, Michigan, passed away on Saturday, October 26, 2024. She was born on September 2, 1943, in Cadillac, Michigan, and graduated from Cadillac High School. In 1966 she married Richard “Dick” Sowton, her faithful husband of 57 years, and they moved to Lansing, Michigan, to begin work and start a family.
Maryon was deeply devoted to her three children, always putting their needs before her own and making sure they were loved and supported in all their endeavors. She especially enjoyed cheering them on at their different sporting events. To help support the family, she went to work as a secretary for the Lansing school district, retiring after more than 20 years.
In retirement, she liked to travel with Dick to see other parts of the country and spend as much time as possible with her grandchildren. She attended Grace United Methodist Church in Lansing and volunteered her time at Sparrow Hospital. Maryon had a playful sense of humor that brought joy and laughter to any family gathering.
Preceding Maryon in death were her husband, daughter Lisa Daman, sister Ardith Banks, brother-in-law Clarence “Pudge” Fauble, and parents Roland and Opal Jacobson. Her survivors include her sons Tim (Stephanie) and Todd (Nicole) Sowton, sister Shirley Fauble, son-in-law Tim Daman, and grandchildren Jason and Abby Daman, Camille Sowton, Olivia Sowton, and Nylah Garza.
Many thanks to the wonderful staff at the Woodlands of DeWitt for their excellent care.
The funeral for Maryon will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 1, 2024, at Grace United Methodist Church, 1900 Boston Blvd, Lansing, MI. Interment will take place in Maple Hill Cemetery, Cadillac, MI. Visitation will be held Friday at the church for one hour prior to the funeral. Memorial donations to the Alzheimer’s Association will be greatly appreciated.
