Mary Louise (Trayer) Hartig

Holt, Michigan

Mary was born August 18, 1933, the daughter of George and Clara (Huffman) Trayer. She passed away on October 14, 2023. Mary graduated from Lansing Eastern High School in June 1952. She retired from First of America Bank-Holt Branch as an Assistant Manager in August 1988, after 25 years of service. She met Arthur Hartig at Coral Gables Night Club on December 2, 1952, and they were married at Camp Rucker in Alabama on August 28, 1953, recently celebrating 70 years of marriage. After they both retired, they spent 17 winters at their home in Leesburg, Florida, returning to Holt, Michigan permanently in 2007 to be with family and friends. Mary enjoyed dancing, bowling, movies, playing cards, TV, reading and sewing. She especially enjoyed attending and following the Detroit Tigers and the Lansing Lugnuts.

She is survived by her husband, Arthur, the love of her life; two children: Ricci (Stephen Kamm) of Battle Creek, MI, and Michele (Gary) Barton of Dansville, MI; grandson Gregory (Kimberly) Weiler, great-granddaughter Shellby Weiler and great-great-granddaughter Emerlynn Carney, all of St. Joseph, MO; brother-in-law, Paul “Dewey” Howard of Holt, MI; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father; stepmother, Vera Trayer; sisters, Carrie (Jim) VanValkenburg of Lansing, MI, and Nancy Howard of Holt, MI; stepbrother, Jesse Campbell; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.

The family wishes to thank the caring staff at both Holt Senior Care and Rehab, and McLaren Home Care and Hospice.

There will not be a funeral service. A celebration of Mary’s life will be held at Buddies Grill, 2040 North Aurelius Road, Holt on Wednesday, November 1, 2023, at 11:30 a.m.

Contributions may be made to the Sam Corey Senior Center, 2108 Cedar Street, Holt, MI 48842, or any charity of one’s choice.

Arrangements are by the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel.
