Mary L. Fiedler

East Lansing

Mary Louise Fiedler, age 76, passed away on July 24, 2017.  She was born on January 13, 1941, to Eva and Lester Fiedler of Clio, Michigan, joining her beloved siblings, Kenneth and Janet (now both deceased).  She moved to Mason, Michigan, and attended Mason Schools throughout, graduating from high school in 1958.  She later earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Metropolitan State University in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in 1976.  She worked in various careers through her early life, with the most gratifying being in substance abuse counseling.  However, she was stricken with Rheumatoid Arthritis in her forties and forced to retire, despite her firm resolve to never surrender to the disease.

She was an avid fan of MSU Women’s’ Basketball, and was a season ticket holder to the end.  She attended most home games and watched as many as she could on TV.

She was a member of the family of All Saints Episcopal Church in East Lansing, Michigan, for 30 years, becoming a Lay Eucharist Minister (LEM) and taking communion to shut-ins.  She was always looking for ways to be of service to her church community, and the church community and the Reverend Kit Carlson was in turn, faithful in their ministry to her.

Special thanks to all her friends at Burcham Hills Retirement Community; to Ida for giving her the gift of taking her outside to sit in the garden; and to Kathleen Leslie who watched over her care.  Special thanks also to the Sparrow Intensive Care Unit and Dr. Mosher with the trauma team for keeping Mary’s best interest in the forefront.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at All Saints Episcopal Church, 800 Abbot Road, East Lansing, Michigan.  A gathering with coffee and refreshments will follow in the undercroft. Memorial contributions may be made to All Saints Episcopal Church or the Capital Area Humane Society. Arrangements are by the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel.
