Matushka Mary is also remembered by her great-grandchildren Emma, Liam, Riley, Lukas, Nicklas, Brennen, Gavin, and Oliver. In addition to her family, Mary leaves behind a multitude of friends whose lives she touched.
Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Father Photius Donahue (1983), her parents Nicholas and Karolina, brothers Nicholas, Walter, George, Joseph, and sister Irene.
Known for her love of church, family, fine wine, and tapping her feet to polka music, Matushka Mary’s vibrant spirit enriched the lives of those around her. Her warm presence and caring nature will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Matushka Mary’s family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Bickford Senior Living of Rockford and Northern Illinois Hospice for their compassionate care.

December 9, 2023 at 9:35 amWe will always remember with great fondness and much love, Grandma Mary. She was “one of a kind” still joking and in conversations with all of us on her 100th birthday party last Feb. They do “not make them like you any more” Grandma Mary and for sure we will always remember how blessed we were to have had so many times and trips together, it is never enough however. Gods Blessings to all of your family and we know you are now resting in the arms of Jesus. Love Forever, Dan and Marsha

December 9, 2023 at 12:15 pmThe Donahue Couple were much appreciated by my predecessor, Archbishop Valerian ME
inasmuch as they worked together in catechetical work at Vatra, Grass Lake, Michigan.
Those were early formative days in sharing the Orthodox Faith in the Greater Lansing-Jackson area.
Matushka was a strong supportive of her husband, Father Photios. They were a unified couple
Memory eternal, good and faithful servant!

December 13, 2023 at 6:37 pmWe echo all of the comments above. Can’t think of any other words to match these. She was the perfect priest’s wife….she weathered every storm; handled any situation with an authentic grace. We were there for three years back in 1973-1976. Memories of her are clear as a bell. With our love and respect..

January 6, 2024 at 8:48 amWhat a beautiful and kind lady! I am happy I had the chance to know Mary! I live in south Florida now. What a delightful surprise it was to run into Ryan and Chris last year. It was an even better surprise to see that they had incorporated Mary’s story into their show. I will remember her for her generous and kind spirit, and delightful laugh! Peace to your family

January 27, 2024 at 7:57 pmThere really are no words to describe the impact that Mary, and her whole family had on my life.
As neighbors in my childhood years, her daughter Kathy became my best friend, along with younger sister, Denise.
As time went on, Father Donahue and the family moved to Okemos. I started attending church with them, at the lovely St. Andrew’s parish. How I loved Father’s sermons!
Years went on, with them taking me to Chicago to visit relatives, and even on a fabulous trip to Europe, when Kathy and I were in high school.
Mary was always the kind and caring “mom” to me.
Bless you dear Mary, how I cherish the memories.
