So sad that my older Carter sister has passed. Mary was one of a kind. I always marveled at her chutzpah and moxie! She was a loving daughter, sister, mother and wife – I know her passing leaves a tremendous void in the lives of all who loved her. I feel fortunate that my life was touched by her’s.

Oh Mary… So so sad to hear you have passed…. Meghan and I were reminiscing about our trips for soccer and basketball… Meg, Emily, you and me… we had a ball! I remember the OJ chase as I was with you and the girls up in Midland! We had a ball! Continue charming everyone in the afterlife, dear one! Love you! Denise Skalsky

My deepest sympathies to the family. I had not seen Mary in a few years but we worked together at Lansing School District, enjoyed talking about our love for animals, had several laughs together, and I babysit for Bo and Emily a few weekends when your parents were out of town. Your mom and Richard will be missed. Mary Kay Gavitt

Mary moved in across the street from me on Fairfax when we were in 3rd grade. We were inseparable for decades of our youth. We called each other Mutt and Jeff because I was short and she was tall. Today I still walk with a long stride!! I learned to walk like that to keep up with my best friend. Growing up I chased her tennis balls in the street for hours!! She was an amazing and gifted player!! In Ludington our families would camp together and one night we snuck out and while we did not do anything wrong but hug guys on the lifeguard stand from “across the lake” – it was a very long drive home!! Lol. We skied together and were the first female Boy Scouts in The Explorers Post 100! Oh the fun we had on those trips up north with “Sarge” Bill Carter and later Lieutenant Bill. We lost track during college and our careers. But I will never forget her. She was and is the ONLY person ever allowed to call me “Mel”, instead of Melanie. Best friends have privileges. Rest In Peace my friend. I love you.
