Marvin P. Gladstone
Marvin Gladstone passed away on March 5, 2025, in Denver, CO. He was preceded in death by his long-time love, Maureen, and son Dr. Ronald Gladstone. Marvin was born in Detroit on the 16th of October 1932, to Rose (Dater) and Clarence Gladstone. The family later moved to the Lansing area when his father opened Gladstone’s, a fixture on Michigan Ave. in Lansing for over 50 years.
Marv and Maureen met at Michigan State (at the time, College) during Maureen’s freshmen year. They married 18 months later after he received his orders to enter the army. They were stationed in Germany and spent several years overseas, traveling as much as Marv’s military service would allow. When they returned stateside, Marv took his place in the family business alongside his father and brother, Harold.
Both Marvin and Maureen were very active in the greater Lansing area, supporting a variety of local charities and organizations. Marvin was especially passionate about his involvement with Congregation Shaarey Zedek in East Lansing. He and Maureen both served on various community boards, participated in events, and assisted in numerous projects until Maureen’s untimely death in 1998.
Marv was an avid Spartan fan, holding season tickets for both basketball and football for over 40 years. After leaving the Lansing area, he enjoyed attending Spartan watch parties and cheering on his beloved teams. He passed his love of MSU and college sports on to his children, with three of them graduating from Michigan State University.
In addition to Maureen and Ron, Marvin was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Harold Gladstone.
Marvin is survived by his children, Kim (Jeff) Shapiro, Kari Gladstone, and Alexis Gladstone. He is also remembered by Jeff’s children, Kori Shapiro, Jodie (Michael) Unkovich and Ryan Shapiro. Sadie and Tucker Unkovich will sadly miss great-grandpa Marv.
Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
