Marilyn L. Poland
Eagle
Marilyn Louise Exelby was born January 19, 1932. She passed away April 9, surrounded by her family: Her husband of 59 years, Murray “Dick”, sons Richard and Bruce, his wife Brenda, and as she would say, her two favorite grandkids, Duncan and Jacqueline. Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Mildred Exelby, infant son Andrew, and her brother Edgar Exelby. She is survived by many special family members. Marilyn graduated from MSU in 1953 with a Bachelors in Education. During her years at MSU, she was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha and met the love of her life Dick. She taught kindergarten throughout her career. She started teaching at Lyons Ave school in Lansing, and then her remaining 26 years were working throughout the Grand Ledge system. She loved vacationing with her family during the summers at her cottage in the U.P., and the rest of the year, her passion was with Dick, spending as much time with her Grandkids as possible – going to parks, attending their band concerts and high school sports. She was a dog lover, and within the last weeks, she wished she was strong enough to have another.
Funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at First Presbyterian Church in Lansing. Interment will take place at Gunnisonville Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel on Tuesday from 5 – 8 p.m. and again on Wednesday at the Church for a one hour viewing prior to the funeral.
Contributions in her name can be made to First Presbyterian Church of Lansing where she was a member for over 70 years or the Capital Area Humane Society.

Thank you for letting me know of Marilyn’s passing.
She was the best friend a person could ever have. We enjoyed our time at MSU, the Rose Bowl trip, and the University of Wisconsin’s summer session. I will miss our emails.

April 11, 2017 at 6:03 pmI am so very sorry Dick, Bruce and Rick for your loss. It’s definitely not easy to lose someone so very special to us, a wife and mother. She’s joined my mom in their flower gardens in the sky. Wishing you all the comfort and peace in your hearts. Sonia.
