Margery “Joan” Sheldon

Age 88, of Lansing, MI, passed away January 23, 2017. Joan was born in Flint, MI, to Margery Taylor Eagan and Charles Eagan.

Retiring after 23 years as a graphic designer for the Michigan Department of Transportation, Joan then contributed her talents and energy to Durant Park. She founded Friends of Durant Park and was instrumental in the restoration of the historic arch at the southeast corner of the park. For the many years that she lived 2 blocks from Durant Park, she remained devoted to its beautification and improvement.

Joan was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Ralph C. Sheldon, and son Jeffrey Sheldon.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 26, 2017, at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Lansing. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Friends of Durant Park or the Capital Area Humane Society in memory of Joan Sheldon. Arrangements are by the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel.
