Margery Ann Scherschligt

Margery Ann Scherschligt, 88, passed to eternal life on April 6th, 2025. She was born on July 8, 1936, in Pierre, SD to Bert and Cecelia (Peggy) Peters. She attended South Dakota State University, majoring in home economics. It was there that she met her life-long love, OJ (Orrie). Following Orrie’s graduation, they were married at Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Pierre. In 1971, they moved to Lansing, MI where they resided for the majority of their 65 years together.

Margery was a dedicated wife and mother, devoted to her family. She was a selfless caregiver, facing many challenges in caring for her youngest daughter who suffered from chronic health issues throughout her life. She was a long-time member of St. Mary Cathedral and St. Gerard parishes, and her strong Catholic faith was instrumental in seeing her through difficult times.

Margery and Terri owned and operated a flower shop together for many years and particularly enjoyed assisting with wedding planning. She maintained special relationships with many of her clients even after leaving the florist profession. Margery was an accomplished porcelain artist, focusing on floral and wildlife subjects, and was skilled in needle arts. She shared many interests with her husband including antiquing, gardening, and collecting art glass. One of her favorite pastimes was feeding birds and wildlife in her backyard “wildlife sanctuary”. She was a sports fanatic and avid Spartan fan, able to recite team facts and stats should such a question come up.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Terri (2002), and husband, Orrie (2021). She is survived by daughters Kim Scherschligt (Bruce Miles) of DeWitt, MI and Randi (Drew) Floyd of Harpswell, ME; granddaughter Dr. Emily Floyd-Stalker (Ryan) of North Yarmouth, ME; and brother Don (Trudy) Peters of Sartell, MN, along with much loved nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Gerard Catholic Church, 4437 W. Willow Hwy., Lansing on Tuesday, April 29th at 10:30 am. The family will receive friends at Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, 325 W. Washtenaw St., Lansing on Monday, April 28th, from 6:00-7:00 pm with a Rosary to be prayed at 6:30 pm. The family will also receive friends at the church on Tuesday for one hour prior to the Mass.

Margery’s family wishes to extend a heartfelt thanks to The Willows of East Lansing for the extraordinary care received throughout the last year of her life.

To Margery’s Family:
I am truly sorry for the loss of your mother! I
did not know about OJ either. So sorry!
I surely would have gone to see her at the Willows if I’d known she was there.
Sorry that I can’t make it to the services. I have some pretty severe health issues and don’t go out except for Dr’s appts. Excited to hear that Emily is a doctor! God bless!

Dearest Kim Maria, and Randi Lee, and families:

I am ever so sorry for your loss. Having known your loving family over 5 decades, I am truly Blessed. Your Mother was the pinnacle of spirituality, compassion, intelligence, and also had an innate sense of the human condition. She lived her exemplary life as she was not only taught, but also realized on her own the value in so doing. Accolades abound for her as a mother, wife and companion to all she knew. She was the wind beneath your Dad’s success.
There are so many fond memories of our times together, enjoying meals, holidays, and then – Life goes on. One of my favorite memories was at an exquisite meal where your Dad, had procured a lovely bird – perhaps a pheasant, from his hobby. And your Mom – prepared such an incredible lemon sauce. Our love of depression and other glass collecting also continues. Please accept my sincere and loving condolences. Well done, Good and Faithful Servant. Godspeed to Margery and may she rest in Eternal Peace.
