Mara A. Lusis
Age 82 of Holt passed away April 21, 2026, in Lansing. She was born in Latvia on March 3, 1944, to the late Aleksandrs and Vera Lusis.
Mara was a graduate of University of Michigan with a master’s in nursing. Following nursing school, she went on to a long career in healthcare caring for people at Lansing General Hospital, St. Lawrence Hospital, Ingham County Health Department and retired from Allegan County Health Department. Mara’s passion and specialty was caring for expecting mothers, newborn babies and teaching new mothers how to care for their newborn. In her free time, she and her husband Gus loved to camp and even managed to camp in 37 states. She also loved craft shows and volunteering at the Ingham County Animal Control and Shelter. Her true passion was for her family, especially supporting her grandchildren in all their music and sporting events. Mara will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Mara is survived by her husband of almost 56 years Gus Lusis; her children Karen (Jess) Sager, Kris (Kelly) Lusis, and Karmen (Juan) Ruiz; grandchildren Austin Sager, Jonas Lusis, Harper Lusis, Gabriel Riley, and Cruz Ruiz; siblings Sandra (Jim) Kardiff, Intis (Ivea) Lusis and Maris (Valentina) Lusis.
She was preceded in death by her parents, granddaughter Ariana Mae Lusis, and a brother Harry Grinvalds.
There will be a memorial visitation held 5:00-7:00p.m., Thursday, April 30, 2026, at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel, 2121 Cedar St., Holt, MI 48842. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Ariana Mae Foundation 2211 Ridgeline Dr., Lansing, MI 48912, or Ingham County Animal Control and Shelter 600 Buhl St., Mason, MI
